Setting Child Fields in Subfrom Error Msg:

When I attempt to define the parent/child fields in a subform , I get the following error msg:
"Object Variable or With Block Variable Not Set".
A variable in the table underlying the subform has a many to one relationship with a variable in the table underlying the main form.
What does this mean?
