You know you're thinking about it! Just don't do it. I watched the sysadmin's box reboot constantly after a failed express install/unistall. It's extremely amusing get your boss or the new guy to install it. Great new gag program, beats goatse.cx and anna.jpg anyday! I LOVE MICROSOFT!

Already did it twice with the full 124MB install and it (thank God) worked perfectly. No crashes yet!

Worked fine for me. ====================================
I love people. They taste just like
chicken!

I installed SP3 using the full download, not the express version, and it has been very stable. Installed flawlessly.

It's been working perfectly for me.
no crash or hang.
yes, microsoft.

I installed on 3 desktop pc's and worked fine. had some problems(maybe?) on servers see other messages above.

I keep getting this “disk write error” when trying to install updates for wins 2000 pro ., either SP2 or SP3,
!!!
Totally pissed off!!!!!!!!

Had a lot more trouble downloading than installing the 127MB version.

One BIG problem, it undid everything we had done to customize security. and it put back that #$@%&^ File Protection System.

We have only been running it since Friday so can't say if it has messed up some obscure applications yet.

Installed on W2K server and could npot get RAS to start again.
Disabled RAS and reinstalled SP3.
RAS worked fine after that!. No other appearent problems now.

Installed complete 124m version on about 6 machines and It cleared up some explorer issues already <you know Explorer.exe has created an error and will be shut down>
My suggestion use full version

I've installed it on close to 100 workstations now and have had no issues during or after install.

Another incident-free install of SP3. My deck has been running fine for 4 days, and I've given it lots of opportunities to blow up on me. ;]

jazzbo, is it possible you don't have local admin rights to your PC? You won't be able to complete SP updates unless you have install rights.

I installed in on one machine, it disabled "add and remove programs" and remapped a couple of drives. Office wouldn't work, after SP3 (full version) was installed, but I could not repair or remove it.

Think I will wait a while before trying it on the other pc's

I installed on 3 w2k servers and no issues. however, three w2k pro are giving prblems and app that runs on all systems is not running after installing SP3. I had to downgrade to Sp 2 in order for it to work again. Also, a system is not booting completely after installin, giving a "procedure entry point " error. these are all inspiron 5000 laptops.

It might just be my luck!

Kathanon: to fix Office, download the Windows Install Clean Up utility from Microsoft (don't know the URL, sorry), and run it to get rid of the Office reg entries. You ought to reinstall Office into the same directory to overwrite the existing files.

Regarding SP3 - I too haven't had any problems with the server install, but the two Professional installs have both buggered up. Both machines kept rebooting continually after Setup forced the reboot - one got as far as attempting to logon, the other didn't even manage to get to the GUI stage (although all the driver loading seemed to go fine). The second machine wouldn't go into Safe Mode either - they were on different hardware. It had to have W2k pro completely reinstalled.

Anyone know of any bug-tracking sites worth looking at??? [idea]

Well, a workstation and laptop installation of SP3 came out OK (these were home installations). Full download.

Did one here at work and, wouldn't you know it, the workstation and browser services wouldn't stay up. I ended up backing out of SP3 and things are better. Funny thing is that I still had the DHCP address, nslookup and Internet access...

Guess it's time for some more ready, or wait another week! J.R. Juiliano

Got it on four servers, dozen laptops and several dozen desktops, no problems (except the download site was really bogged down...) Got to get the full install though, don't waste time with the windowsupdate install.

Well, the full install seems to be better behaved. I used it on one W2k Pro machine, seems okay. Did the WindowsCorrupdate on the other W2k Pro box and it will never be the same. Cycling restarts, bsod's then when it was up, I had lost some apps and the windows installer was "incorrectly registered" so installs/uninstalls were a no-go. The cleanup utility won't even work - I guess I'll fire up Ghost again and then wait another week until I have more time to waste, sigh ....

I like the fact that WIN2K verified the file before installing over SP2. I first ran the Windows Recovery Console CHKDSK /r and then after it felt it was clean, no errors, ghosted this drive to another drive and so far it loads faster, opens programs faster and am monitoring the drive. I still have original SP2 drive in case of problems. Never ghost any WIN2K drives unbless running CHKDSK /R before ghosting to another drive.
