We are getting HEAVY echos through our 5610 phones when using analog trunks ATM4 module. Weird thing is that it is every time a user picks up the phone and it goes away after 3-5 seconds. Another post said that echo cancellation may take a few seconds to "kick in" this is unacceptable to us. I have seen other posts on this issue with numerous suggestions. I was hoping for a fresh one. Thanks in advance....

For clarification, it's only heard on the near end side and it's the users voice feeding back to them. I have turned off sidetone, I do not think it is a sidetone issue.

I had a similar problem on a 406v2 some time ago...Try setting the 'Impedance' setting on the analog trunk configuration form (Analog Options tab) to 'Alternative 2' and reboot.

Has this been in place for some amount of time and the trouble has just begun? I've found 406, IP phones and analog trunks to be generally incompatible...

No, this is a new installation. Thanks for the impedance suggestion. I'm trying it now.

Let us know if it works for you! ;)

No go on impedance. It is version 5 of the software. I saw there is an "Echo Cancelling" VCM which sounds like it could be the ticket. Has anyone seen the differecces between old and new VCM. We have a new one on order. If we cant resolve this we will need to ditch voip and go with digital phones. I hate going backward.

You're already going backwards with Analogue lines, you won't have this issue with a PRI, you will not really see any diffenece between 5610' and 5410's though except a possible improvement in voice quality :)

Believe me, I already know that we're backwards with PRI lines. Can't get the boss to justify one for small sites. Any less than 10 trunks and PRI can't be justified. And we have several other sites with PRI that are fine.

Second the PRI. I had a customer with the same issue and could never fix it. Luckily they had already planned to upgrade to a PRI. Once the PRI was in.. no more echo.

ps. the echo i had was only on the IP sets. so if a PRI is not an option the best bet would be to go to the digital sets, unless of course you are at a remote site.

I believe BRI might be avialable. We've never done it though.
