Sending caller to announcement instead of voice mail ...

Hi everybody - We have a user who will be going on medical leave, and they want to have a simple announcement informing callers of this, but which will not record any voice messages. I tried to set this up, but I must be missing something because it's not working. Here's what I did:

1. I went into system recordings and recorded the announcement, saved it and gave it a name.
2. I went into Announcements and assigned the recording to an announcement and saved it. For the action after the announcement is played, I chose "terminate call" as we simply want the system to hang up after the greeting is played.

Then, I went into the extension, and set the optional destination to be the announcement.

When I called the extension, the user's voice mail was still answering, so I disabled it, thinking that it would then go to the misc. destination. When I did that, after the pre-determined number of rings, the call simply terminates and goes dead.

Perhaps there's an easier way to do this than what I'm trying. Happy to try something different if there's an easier way. I loved the Partner Messaging for this feature - it was built right into the user's voice mail options. Perhaps another great feature for the emetrotel folks to consider! :)

Thanks everyone,
-M

Hi mrdom

I built the exact replica of your setup - it worked fine. Mine is a 4.0 system.
Check follow me settings on that extension.

Thanks

Thanks, engenius. I COMPLETELY forgot I had follow me set on the extension in question ... I'll try and modify the destination in that screen to see if that does the trick. It's not the first time I've forgotten about the follow me screen!

Gratefully,

I am in agreement that Follow Me is playing a role here! You can set the inbound call to go to the Announcement and then the Destination to be "Terminate Call" and Hangup....

Thanks for the replies! It was my bad - I was trying to modify the settings using the extension screen instead of the Follow Me screen. When I made the change in the Follow Me screen, it worked like a charm. Thanks again for all the help!
