im new here and new to CR. hope im asking in the correct place.

im running CR9 Pro and was wondering if there was any way for crystal to send me emails when the scheduled reports fail for whatever reason?

thnx in adv

If you're using CE9, then the only thing you can do is to create an event based 'Failure' report that is set to an SMTP email destination. The report would be triggered by the failure of the critical report. Since this is a kluge, you really only want to do this for a few, highly critical reports

Otherwise, I'd recommend using the 'Instance Manager' sample that comes with Crystal Enterprise. You can launch it from the Crystal Enterprise Launchpad (I'd save it as a favorite). The URL is typically Just login and check for failed reports at the start of your shift and as often as you need to.

FYI, CE10 offers failure notification as a feature. Check out the following whitepaper:

sorry, yes using crystal enterprise. the reports were setup and scheduled in the crystal management console.

ok thnx rhinok. i think the instance manager will help out some. we are planning on upping to crystal 10. but lord knows when. hell 11 will probably be out before we get to 10. but in the mean time ill see if this helps me. thnx again

Should have started a new topic for this one..

Under CE v10, under the schedule tab for the scheduled report, click on 'Alert Notification'.
This will handle your notification needs.

Hi,
If I read the docs correctly, the alert notification only is applicable to Alerts defined in the Report..If the report fails to run, it will never trigger the notification...

Right place, wrong tab.. It's under the 'Schedule', 'Notification'

It has the following options:

Email notification based on:

A job has been run successfully.
A job has failed to run.

So, it can be done without 'Alters' being placed within the report (at least in version 10 and up)

Hi,
Thanks..
All these years using CE and I've never noticed that tab in the Schedule area...[blush]

Don't feel bad Turkbear, I first saw it in CE10.
