See a cell as empty when it has been filled in and cleared

Hello all,

How can I create a formula that looks at a cell in another sheet and sees it as empty (even if this cell has already been filled in and cleared).

Is there a way to do this?

Your answer looks a lot neater than mine even though (I think) they give the same result.

Do they have an underlying difference? IOW, When would you use one ond not the other?

Actually my one could give him a bum steer, so based on the exact requirement he has stated, he should probably go with yours.

If cell A1 has a formula in it that returns "", then it will look apparently blank, and my formula would return TRUE, whereas yours would return FALSE, because indeed teh cell is not truly blank, as it actually contains a formula that returns a blank.

If the cell were really blank, then both would return TRUE.

Depends on what's in the cells really, so if he has formulas in there that will return a blank, and he wants that viewed as a blank, then he should go with mine, but, if the cell will actually be physically cleared, he probably wants to go with yours.

Sorry if that sounds confusing - It seemed to make sense when I wrote, but when I read it back........
