We are running SE primary on physical server provided by Avaya.

Is it possible to deploy Secondary SE server on virtual machine?

Really? But according to docs, the Server Edition Primary and Server Edition Secondary must be on the same platform.

Docs also state:
The Server Edition Primary and Server Edition Secondary must be on the same platform. This constraint applies equally to virtual servers. It is possible to mix native and virtual central servers, but the resources allocated to the virtual environment should match the native server.
Virtualised and native servers can be mixed in the same Server Edition solution in any role, provided the Server Edition Primary and Server Edition Secondary are the same as indicated above.

It is confusing, appreciate the help.

was not fully aware of all of that but now you have the doc you have the definitive answer.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

But what does it mean when it says it is possible to mix native and virtual central servers???

What is native server?

Main problem is the SE licence is different between an SE on a physical machine and an SE on a virtual machine, so I assume you have to licence accordingly to mix and match?

You can mix

Your VM must match what your physical server has for its attributes. IE Memory, processors etc.
Don't forget you need another SE lic on your primary server.

Never tried it but I have read on this forum others have installed a backup application server for the secondary vmpro. This could save you $$$ but I'm not sure if it's %100 supported or not.

I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away...

Agreed, You can mix. I've done it a few times. We even unplugged the Primary as a test and let it run for a couple days just to see if our solution was solid. There were no issues at all.

By "same platform" they mean same capacities/capabilities, ie. ram, disk, processors. They don't care whether virtual or not, just that you don't try to pair a juggernaut primary with a minuscule secondary and then expect that minuscule secondary to somehow cope when the juggernaut goes down.

The bit missing from the (I agree confusing text) is that if you intend to use resilience features then both platforms need to have enough additional capacity to support the others users and extensions during resilience.

There is a comprehensive capacities document that was release this week:

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Most important is that you don't have primary server virtualized with 800 users and deploy R220 server as secondary.

If you configure server edition with Avaya One Source with virtualized primary and hardware server as secondary you will ever get the Dell R630 server as secondary even if you only have 200 users.
