Hiya Gents, long time no speak.

I need to run a scenario by you quickly. Sticking with version 5 for the moment.

I want 1 IP office, A number of IP handsets.
Remote sites will run a number of ip handsets off of the main system.

Now I also want another IP Office in a secure location ie the sites DR location. This will taken over should primary unit fail.

Dont worry about lines/diverts.

how would i license the systems.
Will I need Voice Networking? Will I need Voicemail pro and the likes? PRefeered and pro edition. bla bla bla

Been looking on the knowledge base as I am a strong believer in RTFM however cant find any thing.
Any one fancy helping an ex MVP.

Networking and vmpro.
Trunk licenses are needed too.

All user licenses follow the users.
But i am not sure if that is for 5.0 but it is for 6.0

Yeah I thought it was a V6 option, I know you can write 2 homes within the DHCP scope but I need to establish if this will be enough.

I can sort automatic failover of lines, its purely the logistics of IP Office/IP Phones and possibly VM Pro that I need to keep in an up state.

Personaly I would go for 6.0
you can put in a backup vm server in each ipo.
Backup functionality in vmpro is great.
All those extra user licenses are more expensive the the upgrade licenses.

I was just reviewing this scenario for a customer. Here are some observations for what they're worth.

You can't reboot or you lose the failover. Just about all trunk changes require a reboot so the backup trunks need to be good to go at the time of failover.

Consider pointing the VPN for remote phones to the DR site in case the Internet connection at the main site is part of the reason for the failure. If they lose a routable path to the backup system they won't failover.

tlpeter is right, R6 is the way to go. The upgrade license just isn't the place to try and cut costs on this solution.
