The server has a dual use of exchange and fileserver. I used the server backup software that came with the hpdat drive and MS own bacup utility software. None is successfull which makes me apprehensive to spend loadsa wonga on veritas etc. I may be niave but shouldn,t it appear in the explorer with a device letter?? I loaded every service pack and patch i can find, and scoured the net for a hint, I,m going round in circles with HP Support, any help would be appreciated...

Hi

You won't see a drive letter in explorer.

Look under Contol Panel ---> System and see if your drive shows up in there.

If not then the OS isn't seeing it so it's not installed.

yep it,s in the device manager alright

Each time you connect a tape drive, be it hotswappable or other wise, control panel is where it will be visually displayed (as long as the O.S. detects it). Likewise, if your backup software is already running at the time the device is installed, you will not see it listed in the interface until the list of attached devices is refreshed.

ok i understand, i have seen it in the backup software, and in the device manager. I suppose as long as you can connect. Thanks for you help

If you want to back up data to disk media, AnyBackup Server Edition is a better solution for the server backup.
