From Santa's Blog
My last round (of Chemotherapy) will be on my mom’s 86th birthday, October 16. So, we’ll celebrate that evening with a combination Birthday/End-of-Chemo party at Mom’s home in St. George, Utah.

So how did it all go ???

Thanks for asking, RCorrigan. Apparently, I survived the last round of chemo, and I should definitely update my blog to let everyone else know same.

I am waaaaay happy to call last Friday's round my last...The cumulative effects of the poisoning are really starting to bug me. Most prevalent is the peripheral neuropathy which currently has all of my fingers (for the end two knuckles) and my toes, deader than door nails. (Typing with "dead stumps" at the ends of my hands really has increased my typing errors significantly!) Also, for around ten days to two weeks, I expect the neuropathy in my mouth to prevent my drinking anything cold (as it feels like razor blades going down).

The Internet suggests that the peripheral neuropathy in my extremities typically lasts for 3-5 months following the end of chemotherapy.

But overriding all of my SEUSes (S ide E ffects and U nusual S ensations) [which, when all told, have really been no more annoying than a bad hangnail] is my overwhelming gratitude that I live in an era when there are medical technologies that exist that should allow me to be around my wife, kids, grandkids, and friends (such as my Tek-Tipster Family) for (hopefully) a few more years ! (My dad and his dad both died at age 52 from myocardial infarctions, so I consider each of my 1,553.27 days since I passed age 52 to be gravy...If I died tomorrow, you could advise anyone that SantaMufasa died a happy and fulfilled guy, but I'm glad that it doesn't look like I'll be "heading out" anytime soon. <grin>)

Thanks so much for your individual and collective support and concern in my behalf.

You Da' Best ! (All Y'alls!)

Fantastic post to read Santa - I'm betting that you being there was the best present your Mum's ever had.

Glad to hear that things are going well, my friend, and here's to a quick decline in the SEUS and continued success in your treatment.

Good to hear its going well, and that the nasty bit of it is over. Poppet and I send you our best. (Actually, she's snoring right now but if she were awake she'd be more positive!)
