is there anyway to recover sage accpac 5.5a admin password? it has been forgotten?

Hopefully you have a login to SAMINC or SAMLTD which doesn't need a password, then you can change it.

No, SAMINC or SAMLTD were not installed.

Alternatively is there any way the admin record can be altered via pervasive control centre?

Meanwhile how can one activate a module without using the admin account

No, and the password is not recoverable. You need to recreate all your users and companies in a brand new system manager installation. In other words, you install the system manager on a new computer, pointing to a new SharedData folder, then copy the SITE folder from the new to the old, and recreate your users and companies.

Okay, can you give the special steps that i need to carry out? any back ups that need to be done?

1. Install system manager on a new computer that doesn't have Accpac on it, pointing to empty folders.
2. All you need is system manager, no other modules, and you don't care about licenses or activation codes
3. Rename the old SITE folder
4. Copy the new SITE folder to the old location
5. Run Database Setup (password is now admin/admin), and point to your databases
6. Login and recreate your users

I'm thinking if i first exported all the settings of the users, can i be able to import them into the new system manager? Thereby saving some time

Security settings are saved in data, not the SITE folder, so you don't have to.

Ok this is how i understand it. After installing, and i begin re-creating the users will they retain their previous security settings?

Just out of curiosity, does this action have an impact on the other modules?

otherwise let me look around for a download of system manager 5.5a

do you have any clues where i can get a trial download for system manager 5.5a

assuming i uninstall system manager and re-install it, what about the activation will i need to pay for new activation?

Nope, the activation remains valid. But I think you're missing a point.... you need to install System Manager on a computer where Accpac has never been installed.
Uninstalling and reinstalling SM is not going to get you anywhere. You need to do a fresh install so that new files are created in the SITE folder.
