RFI on Partner

Summer of 08, I installed a Partner ACS 509 R7 w/5 slot carrier in an am/fm radio station. There are also a couple of 308 ec's. We ran Shielded cat-5 cables,used shielded jacks and a shielded patch panel. Keep in mind this replaced an acient 1A2 key system that had horrible RFI.The system is also properly grounded, but they still have RFI
(their own signal BTW) Anyone have any experience with radio stations in particular? We got a tech document from Avaya showing how to install some of their filters, however it is a big cost issue with those. If we have to provide those, we lose big money as it would require about 40+ filters, between the c.o. lines and the stations. (about 22 phones X 2 filters each) Thanks in advance.

RFI can be a pain to control, even when shielded cabling is used and properly installed.

I've read of instances where typical handset cords can act as an antenna.

Thanks Dex. I downloaded his 8 page tech bulletin on RFI last night. Going to try and figure out the freq. ranges with the station owner and try some things from there.

Sandman is the way to go. I had RFI on a customer site. We bought filters for the handsets, lines, and extensions. We tried the filters on a variety of phones and lines. Even if you don't use the filters, they are great for troubleshooting. We were able to isolate it to the C.O. lines. I would put your test set on the d-marc first to rule out that possibility. If you have new cabling (shielded) and a new phone system, I would think it may be a Telco issue.

We haven't been able to detect it at the dmarc. To top it off, the station owner has one remaining old 10 button set still hooked up on the old 1A2 system in his office and that set is clear, no RFI. I haven't been back to confrim that. The salesman has been dealing with him now. I wish they'ld give me the green light to go back over and see if that phone is filtered somewhere. The station owner is a radio engineer, so no telling what he might have done.
