First you need Adobe Acrobat. It is Expensive! About $350 US. It can save as an rtf but the format gets a little weird. I saw a third party plug in that costs another $250 US that perports to do a better job, but have not tried it.
What is it you need to do? Edit the files? You can use Acrobat for that and re-save as pdf if you want.

Jontmke, that is the problem... I've got Acrobat and distiller. When I try to revert it using Acrobat, the majority of formatting is either stripped or just "off".
The problem is when the author of the doc decided that the pdf was "good enough" and deleted the original word doc. Now it needs major revision and the degree of change is just not feasible in Acrobat.
Oh well... I feel sorry for the person who has to re-create it.

Print it out, take it to Kinko's, and let them try to scan and convert the document preserving the formatting. A good business-oriented copy center does this all day long and has the tools and experience to help you.
