Hello,

We recently migrated to a Cisco VoIP system and are wishing to clear everything from our old Norstar system to prepare it to sell to another company. I have only administered this equipment to reset passwords, set up new extensions, set up hunt groups, etc. Very basic stuff. Can someone help me with this process or point me in the right direction?
The only information I have is that it is a Norstar MICS and we had M7310 phones. We wish to clear voicemails, phone #s, speed dials, etc...basically back to factory defaults.
Thanks,

Chad

Never heard of that. On Vmail it's Ftr 983, pswd, 1, reinstall, yes.

On MICS it's pull the power and within 15 minutes, Ftr** startup, pswd.

sorry you are correct dewey

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

Great...thanks so much for the quick responces...However, one thing I forgot to mention was that the new system is already in plave. All phones are already boxed up. The Norstart T1 modules are still on the wall though. We were originally going to leave all the equipment/phones here for when we sell this building, however, the moving project got delayed so we went ahead and migrated to the new system.
So, when you gentlemen reference "pressing (Vmail) it's Ftr 983, pswd, 1, reinstall, yes and on MICS it's pull the power and within 15 minutes, Ftr** startup, pswd", do I need to plug a phone back in? Also, for the MICS, do I connect via console cable? Any detailed steps would be appreciated.

Chad

Yes, to default telephone system it will need to be plugged in. Shouldn't be a surprise, furthermore you'll need at least 1 telephone attached and Vmail attached. Then follow instructions.

The other way to reset the system to default without telephone sets is to remove the cover and short the two pins on the capacitor for 5 seconds. You must do this twice. The system will then be back to factory default. (p.s.- make sure the power is unplugged !)

Follow Dewey's instructions to be safe. Nortel supports that method. Unless you're really sure about what you're doing, I never advise anyone to pull the cover off a cabinet.

You can also erase a hard drive by running it through a strong magnetic field, but why? Format C:

Sorry guys, Im not seeing those options. I get into Feature 983, and enter the password and it takes me to Admin with the 3 options: MBOX, AA, OTHR
If I press 1 it asks me for another password. I know both administrative passwords and neither of them work for this prompt.
And when you mention entering "reinstall" or "startup", is this just an option that will be on the phone, or what?

Thanks,

Chad

When you press 1, type in REINSTALL, then choose yes.

Just like my first post.

force5- in your post on 21Mar, you answered your own question:

"So, when you gentlemen reference "pressing (Vmail) it's Ftr 983, pswd, 1, reinstall, yes and on MICS it's pull the power and within 15 minutes, Ftr** startup, pswd", "

Reinstall the vm, then Startup on the phone system. In that order.

Good deal...the reinstall worked fine...but now when trying to do Ftr** startup, pswd it says "Startup Denied". I tried it with the MICS powered down and within the 15 minutes. Just for the heck of it I tried it with the MICS powered on and got the same message.

Thanks

Normally, if I need to do startup, I do it right after system bootup. Make sure that you are using the same password as you would for F**CONFIG. I normally try to do this within the first minute or two when the system is finished booting. Always works.

You might also leave the unit unplugged for a good 10 minutes or so. If you just unplug and then plug right back in, the system will not detect being out of power because it was only out for a few seconds, and so startup will not work.

Power down system, wait 5 mins, power up system, wait for time and date to display, Ftr**startup, pswd, yes. Guarranteed victory!

Everything worked like a charm. thanks for your patience and help with this. The quick responses were greatly appreciated!
After you do a Ftr** startup, pswd....it asks something about a template and the default option is "PBX". I pressed Next and then it asked something else...I chose Next again and now my phone says "Applying Template"....is this ok to choose the defaults?

Thanks

Thanks,

Not a problem, all will be erased and someone else can worry about the Template.

The template type just selects how the keys are laid out by default on an extension when you plug a certain phone type in. I think it is something like Square, Centrex, PBX, and DID or something like that. But, that can always be changed by whoever buys it.
