I have read the few posts there are on this subject and nothing seems to work. When BlueTooth got kicked off the client's premises, they left the routers with no passwords. I am unable to telnet without knowing the password. I tried NavisConnect but each time I go to save the config file, the file is never saved and these small dialogue boxes with "WORKING" on them pop up, but nothing happens.
The SNMP password changed and I cannot do anything with these 3 DSLPipes. I popped off the cover and I see three jumpers. I tried jumpering all three, the first two, the last two...nothing happens. No matter what I do I cannot reset these things.
When I use Hyperterm or any other derivative, all I get is the main edit window, but I cannot move the cursor ">", with the arrow keys, Ctrl-N, nothing works. The only window that is highlighted is the main edit (configuration) window.
I went to Lucent's support site for instructions on this NINDY thing and bupkus comes up. NO one has anything on the actual procedure for performing NINDY.
Whatever happened to that good 'ol reset switch or the <1mm button-hole you have to stick a jeweler's screwdriver through?????
Can anyone help? I'm sittin' on about $1,500 worth of DSLPipes that are worthless at the moment. They were donated to the school for routing labs and I cannot use them!!
I'll try almost anything with these puppies, but I don't have a clue. I've got all the package materials, serial numbers, etc. All I need is to find out how to reset these things so that I can use them with the students.
Anyone???? Anything????

Try this:

Open unit case. Then...
· On the right side of the board locate the P12 and short it.
· Attach the power then the serial cable. Configure the terminal software for 57600 N-8-1 no flow-control
· You should see a DSLPipe> prompt. Type DF.
· After typing DF upload the correct version of the software. The software is about 450K.
· When complete (2-4 minutes) remove the power cord then remove the jumper.
Replace the box lid and power up. It’s now running in a factory original configuration.
· Reconnect the serial cable using 9600 N-8-1 no flowcontrol and configure as desired.

If this doesn't work then I'm afraid you may have to RMA these units and have the factory reset them as this model is no longer made.

Good luck!

I thank you for your help. It didn't work though. As soon as I connected the router back up, all I got in the terminal window was a " ' " (quote) symbol, coming in at 4 symbols at a time. There was no DSL Pipe> prompt, or any other prompt. This was duplicated on all three routers. I am beginning to believe that maybe these pups were fried at some time. I'll have to find out from Lucent what they'll charge us to get them reset. If we cannot afford it, I'll just have to chuck 'em.

There are three routers in all. Two DSLPipes: ser#10641486/mod#dsl-hs-2.3mbs and ser#10634182 and one Pipeline 130 (ser#9696236/mo#p130-ubri-t1-asa) which I noticed is using a P50 system board!!

Anyway, at this point now I can see them all in NavisConnect but I cannot access any of the edit screens. The Main Edit menu comes up, but no cursor movement, cannot switch windows via the Tab key, Ctrl-D (nor any other key, in fact) does not work. It's like the cursor and keyboard controls have been locked out, but yet and still I can see LAN stats and other things happening in the menu, but I cannot effect any changes.

In NavisConnect no profiles that I "save as" at TXT file have any data in them. I get this little dialogue window that pops up and says "WORKING" with a progress window that sits there doing nothing.

Also, when I short out pin 12 (on the DSLPipe) I do get a "DSLPipe" prompt. However, when I type in "df" and hit enter, the cursor just drops to the next line, with no further prompts.

The same thing happens when I short out pin 1 on the P130. I get a prompt, but when I type in "ef", the cursor just jumps to the next line when I hit the enter key.

It seems that in both cases I can get to the appropriate prompt, but nothing happens when I hit enter. My hyperterimal settings (W2K Server w/ SP2 installed and the latest version of Hyperterminal) are as follows:

57,600=baud, data bits=8, parity=none, stop bits=1, flow control=none, VT100 emulation, send echo=on, wrap around is turned on and everything else is all default

I cannot get in via COM1 or Ethernet. NavisConnect will not allow for a valid save of the config file (although it goes through the motions of doing so).

What gives? What am I doing wrong?????? Help Me, Please!!!!

I am in the process of teaching Active Directory sites, site links and site bridges implementation but I have no routers available to handle my subnet traffic!! You can imagine what kind of a quandry I am in.

Try changing your baud rate from 57600 to 9600. This is the recommended baud rate when using Hyperterm for Pipelines. Also try hitting Ctrl-L to referesh your screen. If all that fails try another PC preferably with a different OS.

BTW, the P130 is basically on a P50 board. When you perform a Nindy you will see a P50 prompt. This is normal.

Hello LucentGuy!

That 57600 baud setting is for when P12 is jumpered (DSLPipe) and when P1 is jumpered (Pipeline 130). Any other time I am using 9600 to normally term my way into the router. That is when the main edit window appears along with all of the other information windows. However, I am unable to use CTRL-(anything), no cursor keys, nothing. But the windows contain live data, like the WAN connection is down, LAN stats window is displaying packet traffic.

I have attempted this process many times on W2K server and W2K Professional. On workgroup servers and an HP laptop. I will try another OS and see what happens.

I am starting to wonder if I may have to RMA these things and what'll it cost me?

What protocol is supposed to be used when transferring the flash image via the terminal emulator (kermit, xmodem, etc.)????

If NavisConnect and Nindy fails your only other recourse is to RMA the units. You can request an RMA on Lucent's Support website at They will fax or email you the cost estimate. Then you can decide what you want to do.

How would one get a firmware upgrade for a dslpipe hs router. (How exactly would you upload the correct software as mentioned above? I have tried this. The router only comes back with the same configuration and passwords as it did before the process mentioned above.

DSL Pipe software can be found at ftp.ascend.com. As I mentioned before, if NavisConnect and Nindy fails your only other option is to RMA the router.

Hello Everyone, I did a nindy on my router and I recevied new hash codes from lucent however I get this error

> update 102 13 0 GNFOC9K5NkZ7_H
update command: invalid arg 4!

Am I forgetting something is there a command I'm suposed to execute beforing sending an update?

Did you begin with the revision line? Try copy and paste the revision line first, hit enter, then the update lines.

i have a dsl pipe model dsl-hs-2.3mbs. It connects to a etherrnet workstation, but will not connet to a 8 port hub. This modem did work before cable was rerouted, is there an initialization, other than power on.

When plugging the DSLPipe LAN port into a workstation directly (i.e. no hub) you need straight-through cable since I believe the DSL-HS-2.3MBS has a built-in 4-port hub. Correct me if I'm wrong. However if you are plugging in the DSLPipe into a hub, this is a hub-to-hub arrangement and requires a crossover ethernet cable unless your hub has an uplink port.

I'm going to do nindy boot. I coud not find any help in Lucent tech support web site. This is only clue I have:
My lucent box is a DSL-HS-2.3Mbps. Do you think the instruction below is correct ? please notice that pin number is 13 (not 12).

1) With all cables and power removed, open the case and orient the LEDs toward you (the front).
2) In the front center of the board locate the motorola chip. Behind this chip are 2 pairs of jumpers. Short P13.
3) Attach the power then the serial cable. Configure the terminal software for 57600 N-8-1 no flow-control
4) You should see a DSLPipe> prompt. Type DF.
5) After typing DF upload the correct version of the software. The software is about 450K.
6) When complete (2-4 minutes) remove the power cord then remove the jumper. Replace the box lid and power up. It’s now running in a factory original configuration.
7) Reconnect the serial cable using 9600 N-8-1 no flowcontrol and configure as desired or use the JBPC.

Experimenter

Hey guy
I have a DSL hs 2.3, and the POST finishes with a "configure unit" message.
I think this means that the unit has been flashed and needs to be re-serialized. Once upon a time, the lucent lovelies sent me a re-serialization hash-code, which I never seemed to be able to get loaded.
I'll get back to you when I find the documentation and procedures that actually work.
