I bought a used IPO 403. I'm having trouble getting into it. I'd like to reset the security settings but that's not working (at least so far). I was able to get the connect to the DTE port and discover the MAC address. From there, I opened Manager and added that MAC address to the BOOTP config. When I try to open the configuration, I get the usual login dialog. I don't know the user name and password as this was bought used. I tried Administrator/Administrator, Administrator/password and various other guesses. Nothing worked, so I'm back to trying to do something through the DTE port.
What I've tried:
AT
OK

AT-SECURITYRESETALL
ERROR

AT-2
ERROR
AT-3
ERROR

AT-DEBUG
IP403_FEC: :ReceiveError 802

I've turned off the firewall in Windows XP (old laptop with a serial port) but it seems like a communications error. Anyone have experience with this?

Thank you for the help

I had read those before posting. Unfortunately, there is no explanation if you get an error and how to diagnose that.

AT-SECURITYRESETALL

The error suggests that the firmware version is too old for the security reset to work (below V3.2). Not surprised given that the IP403 became end of support 10+ years ago

IP403_FEC errors suggest that the Ethernet ports are dying.

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Hook up a serial cable and enter the command at-debug
From there enter erase config and after that erase nv-config and at last enter reboot.
It will come in factory standards:
LAN 1 = 192.168.42.1
LAN 2 = 192.168.43.1
Login name & password = Administrator

Have fun with the old timer!

intrigrant,
Thanks for the steps. But, as I noted above, when I try to run the AT-debug command, I get IP403_FEC: :ReceiveError 802

1 IP403 does not support AT_SECURTYREESTALL
2 Ignore the FEC error until uit is factory defaulted throug the serial port (34800/8/N/none) use PuTTy
3 my error : the unit does not have a LAN 2

Erasing with AT-Xx needs a reload of the firmware, using at-debug does not, for a newbie a better solution as it is tricky to load the firmware if you are not familiar with that.
Anyway, both solutions work and apart from the tricky way both will clear the config
Did you try to open the config with the manager or Operator account? Usename & password is Manager or Operator, both accounts give limited acccess.
It will make a backup config which is stored in the manager folder.
Open the config offline and use a asterix tool like Asterwin to reveil the system password

Well, none of that has worked so far. I tried logging in with Administrator, Manager and Operator accounts. Apparently, someone has changed them all. The only command that give me the correct results is AT (enter). That will come back with OK. AT-X2, AT-X3, AT-X4 all come back with "ERROR". AT-SECURITYRESETALL comes back with ERROR as well. AT-debug comes back with the IP403_FEC: :ReceiveError 802, which keeps repeating itself over and over. I let it keep doing that for an hour, but it never came out of that ReceiveError loop.

Any other ideas I can try?
I appreciate the help.

If you're correctly breaking the boot cycle while unit is booting (this is a critical step), and if AT-X2 & AT-X3 don't work, then it could be that the unit already needs firmware. If you connect a phone, does it work?
Of course, the unit could also be toast.

Update
I setup another computer to run Windows 7 and Hyper Terminal. For some reason, that computer was able to send the AT-DEBUG command correctly. I was able to log into Manager. I think I can do the rest. Thanks for the help!

Have fun with it, when introduced it was the top of the bill.
