We need to replace a working IP 412V2 4.2 system, with an IP 500 V2. The 412 currently has 9 expansion modules:(8)DS 30 and (1)Phone 30. All of the modules are currently at 6.2(14) and 2/8 of the DSs are V2s.

I'm thinking of a roll back plan, because I'd have to do this over an evening. Would it just be a matter of plugging the (newly upgraded) modules back into the 412, rebooting, and then upgrading back to 6.2(14)?

Thanks for any suggestions.

It will be that way indeed.

Thanks tiPeter.

In my situation, would you think there would be an issue with so many sets (250) upgrading at the same time?

If so, and as a precaution, would you recommend bringing the expansion modules on, one-at-a-time. Which would require about 9 reboots, (allowing about 15 mins between reboots, to allow any sets on the last-added module to upgrade). The digital sets are a mix of 4412d and 5420.

The IP500 will automaticaaly upgrade your modules.
I would use a 3th party tftp server for upgrading all these phones at the same time.

Thanks tiPeter.

I'm not too worried about the IP phones, I'm more concerned with the digital phones, that I keep reading about, taking so long to upgrade.

At least 15 minutes each.

Sorry,

Just to clarify, Are you thinking that it might be good practise to upgrade the modules and the attached digital sets, one at a time? EG plug old DS30 into new IP500V2, Allow IP500 to upgrade module one, reboot, allow 15 minutes for phone attached to module one to upgrade then plug in module two, and then repeat etc.

Or are you saying that I probably shouldn't worry about the phones, and upgrade all of the modules at the same time, and then 15 minutes later, all of the digital sets should be upgraded, as well. Thanks for advising.

Just plug all in and reboot the IP500V2
Check in monitor if there are phones upgrading and if they do grab a couple cups of coffee and have a bite to eat.
Then when you are dome get another cup of coffee and take a walk around the office and check the phones if they upgraded or not.

It is indeed.
Monitor shows if phones are upgrading when you enable tftp under services (in monitor!!!)
So if phones do upgrade then all you need to do is check them.
