Guys,

Any comments on release 7? Installing a new system with a PRI and per cab.

I know of at least one installation where release 7 is causing audio loss on the phones. It happens like clockwork during a call...

Running 7.0.8.5 for a while, no issues. Works nicely. Nice features. No complaints.

Where can I get a list of the new features in v7?

Voicemail transfer was supposed to be in v7.

Thanks

Rls 7 includes:

3300 MXe controller
Redundant power supplies
Redundant (RAID-mirrored) hard drives
ASU-II
Resilient E1/T1 combo card
Application processor card
several forms enhancement
T1/E1 trunk resiliency
Clustered call pickup groups
Resilient hunt groups
ACD Resiliency
Call Park
Group Listen
Alpha Tagging
SIP trunking
LLDP-MED
Spanning Tree Portfast
New 5550 IP Console (Rls 3)
Addt'l database fields on console
New config wizard
Some voicemail enhancements
IP Set display of associated controllers
Tracert maint command
Reset System Command
Upgrade Bootrom mtce command
SMDR extended reporting level 2
Some other stuff.

The upgrade training manual is a little scary, 100+ pages but the quiz (25 questions) wasn't too bad.

I've started to use Alpha Taging - cool feature. Specially since calls coming in from the USA typically only have the phone number but not the name.

I have not tried or saw anything to do with voice mail transfer - will check into that.

By the way, maybe it's just my observation, but the new Rls 7 Tech Handbook is arguably one of the best ever. Mitel did a nice job with it. Much more detail and items included that weren't in prior releases. (400 pages)

Is the voicemail transfer feature on the 5550 console now available on the 5235 phone with v7?

This feature is critical for environments like a law firm. The secretary wants to be able to press a VM Trnsfr button and then enter their attorney's extension.

Thanks

Ron

You've always been able to do that, haven't you?

Here's how:

Create no-ring dummy-number key appearances on a spare multiline set port. (the physical instrument does not even have to exist). You can even program up a dummy PKM or two on that same non-existent instrument to really get a bunch of blank spots to fill.

Next assign the digit star (*) plus the extension number of each user that you want to be able to do this for. Example if you have exts assigned to (Lawyers) on ext 1001, 1002 and 1003 (I could go on....) simply create dummy numbers on your spare superset port using those same 4 digit exts but prepended by the star digit to each, so you have *1001, *1002, *1003, etc. as key appearances on the dummy instrument.

Next in your call reroute assigment form program all of those "star" numbers to reroute always to the voice mail hunt group pilot number.

In the typical call scenario your admin answers for lawyer 'x' whose phone number is 1001. The caller asks to be placed in the lawyer's voice mail. The admin simply performs a blind transfer to *1001 and immediately releases the call. Bingo, it works.

This will work with the 3300 or SX2000 with any fully integrated voice mail system, whether embedded or 3rd party standalone (i.e., Octel)

Example of Tech Handbook improvement:

For one thing they have acknowledged the various different architecture of cabinets with a separate explanation of exactly how to open each one.

Same for replacing hard drives in each different platform

They have documented how to migrate a 2K Microlight, even referencing the TB article from a prior sales bulletin.

To me it just seems to be easier to find specific things, like maybe a slightly more intuitive layout.

MitelInMyBlood,

Thanks for your response. I'll forward your suggestions to our business partner. I understand some of what you are saying, but I haven't had any official Mitel training yet on the 3300.

Thanks

Ron

In regards to the transfer to voicemail from MitelInMyBlood. I setup the no-ring dummy call appearance and also set the reroute always to voicemail. I still have an issue where I get just the auto-attendant and still will need to hit * and then the mailbox number at that point. I am running the 6510 Messaging server with DNIC integration. I am wondering if the mailboxes need to know that there is a * in front of the extensions or do I have to somehow strip the * before it gets to vmail so it can actually find the a valid mailbox?

Thanks!

Rich

No. This should work. The mailboxes do not need to know about the leading "*" and you do not have to strip it off. I've never tried this with the 6510 but it works with external systems like Octel and also works with the embedded "in-the-skins" version of Mitel Express Messenger.

What happens if a caller dials the user directly and the call goes into voicemail on its own? Do they get the AA or does the call go to the called party's mailbox without human intervention or further prompting?

It goes right to the mailbox after the set amount of rings for my 1st alternative setting. But if I reroute to voice mail the * and ext number it does not work. It is almost like it takes too long for the 6510 to answer. Normally how our system works when you hear the AA then hit * it ask to enter the mailbox number to leave a message.

Well obviously this trick doesn't work with the 6510 then. Sorry. Just to confirm, you need to set the "*+ext" number to call-reroute always in the call reroute assignment table so it will reroute immediately to the voice mail hunt group pilot nbr.

What happens if you reprogram the reroute destination number to point to one of the VM ports rather than the pilot nbr?

I have done all that. Thanks for your help though. It was worth trying anyway. I am thinking that the 6510 is a bit of a different animal.

The suggestion worked in our environment. We have the 3300 ICP with embedded VM.

Thanks again MitelInMYBlood

I tried this just for kicks - no real need. Now my assistant loves me. Too bad she wasn't blond :)

I can't claim much credit except for passing it along. The idea came from an Octel tech 10+ years ago. He had been using it with an Intecom-E and an Octel 350 in a big law firm. I tried it with our 2K and found that it worked there too. Then a couple months ago I read a tip posted in the Knowledge Base that accomplished the exact same thing using dummy hunt group numbers. I emailed my TAM that the idea in the KB was valid but since Hunt Groups was usually a valuable and limited resource on large systems that the same thing could be done using dummy key apps without depleting small resource pools. Shortly thereafter the tip on the KB was rewritten to include my suggestion.

I'm currently doing this using the dummy hunt group method, but our users complain that it takes to long. What it does is you create a hunt group that reroutes to voicemail with no numbers in it. The users have to hit the transfer button and then hit the speed dial button for the dummy hunt group and the wait until AA picks up then hit * which then ask for the mailbox number to be entered. Once the user enters the box they hang up. This is with the 6510 system. Kind of cumbersome.
