Am I missing something here?

I have an .rpt based on a Crystal .qry (Crystal Reports v8) that has been running fine for weeks. I added an extra field into the dataset returned by the .qry, and can I get the .rpt to acknowledge the update to the .qry? Not a hope.

I have tried:
- Verify database
- Close and restart Crystal Reports
- Set Location
- Log Off and Log On to database

I know that the new field (column) appears when I run the .qry file in isolation. I also know that the report has picked it up because all the data coming from columns after the new column is now showing the adjacent column's data (ie. it seems to be working off the column number rather than name).

But when I click on Database Fields > Query, the new column is not listed.

Thanks for any tips for kick-starting my report.

After 2 and a half HOURS of trying to get the .rpt to notice the new dataset from the .qry, it finally - and mysteriously - woke up and noticed! No particular reason as far as I could see. I just kept trying the same things over and over and eventually one of them worked.

Sometimes I think of Crystal as a smart product with some charming quirks. Sometimes I just think it needs a complete re-write. Is CR9 any more robust and reliable, anybody?

Hi

I too experience this problem. I would love to know of a way to fix it.

I have found a similar problem when making changes to stored procedures, then trying to change the dataadapters. The dataadapters take time to recognise new stored procedures or changes to existing ones. It is like VS.Net caches information about the database and it's objects and only refreshes every now and again.

I'd love to find out what can be done to fix this.

Hi

I downloaded CR For VS.Net SP1 and it seems to have rectified the problem somewhat.

Hope this may help you.
