Re-purposing an IP Office 500 system - license question 4

My company has a fully functional but no longer used Avaya IP Office 500 system with 2 PRI channels and Voicemail Pro. We now wish to repurpose this to a remote office that has only 4 analog lines coming into the office and they don't want to take on the expense of a PRI right now. I know this means I need to replace the two PRI channels with a 4-port analog module (easy and cheap enough), but do I need to buy any licenses for the 4-port analog module? I know we had to license the PRI channels and the Voicemail Pro channels, but I know nothing about analog ports.

Thanks!

analog ports do not need licensing, they are fully functional without any licenses.

Give a tech a solution and he will be back tomorrow to ask you the next question, teach a tech how to read the manual and he will be able to solve the problems for a life time.

I have purchased the 4-port analog module (700417405, IP500 4 Port Analog CO Card (ATM4U)) and installed it on the 'VCM32' module.

I am now reconfiguring the system prior to shipment to the target site. On the front of the VCM32 module (which now has the 4 port module installed), the first of 4 analog ports (port 9) is solid red.

In Manager (v 7.0.5), under 'control unit', I see
(1) IP 500 7.0(5)
(2) PHONE2/PRIS U 7.0(5)
(3) DIGSTA8 7.0(5)
(5) VCM32/Unknown 7.0(5)

This last row concerns me - I'm guessing it should show 'VCM32/ATM4U' or 'VCM32/ANA4' or similar.

Is there something I need to do to 'activate' the new analog card?

Note - I have not yet plugged any analog lines into it as I'm just staging this on my desk ahead of deployment ... I mention that just in case it has to see at least one analog source before coming alive ...

Note also - I did not remove the PRI daughter card, as can be seen above; I assumed I could just leave it in there for future use. Could there be a conflict between the PRI card and the Analog card?

Thanks!

I would upgrade to R7.0(36)
R7.0(5) was tempermental, and did not support all of the combo card combinations.

Also swaping the Digital8 in a different slot might do it, You can try that if the upgrade dosen't do it.

Thanks, I'll try that (downloading now). What is the recommended version of VMPro to go with R7.0(36)?

Also, do you think it's fine to leave the PRI card in? Are there any extra config steps I'll have to go through to have both a PRI and a set of Analog lines coming in?

Thanks.

Did you perhaps got the ATMv2?
This is only supported on 8.1.63 and up.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Thanks a million AndrePa - that was it - once I upgraded to 7.0(36) the Analog card was recognized!

I realize now that all my experience has been with PRIs; I've never tried to configure a system with Analog lines coming in. Is there a basic config guide that tells me how to treat the 4 lines appropriately? I presume I treat them in a similar manner to the PRI channels - outbound start at the top and work down, incoming come in at the botton and work up, etc. I know the Telco has set the lines to roll upwards on busy. So maybe I just need to figure out how to make outbound calls target the 'top' line ...

Thanks again!

Outbound will use the lines in a most idle pattern (or perhaps it is circular, but not sequential), so if you want to use the lines in a specific order you need to put each line it its own outgoing group, create an ARS for each group, target shortcode 9 to the first ARS, and overflow each ARS to the next one.

Thanks, TouchToneTommy - that method of working is perfectly fine and is exactly how I saw it operating, 'out of the box' - great!

I have a question about location of media on the Avaya FTP site - I was able to download the Admin 7.0(36) from:

ftp://ftp.avaya.com/incoming/Up1cku9/SoftwarePub/7_0GA_Builds/ADMIN/ADMIN7_0_36.exe

but when I tried to get voicemail software, I got errors suggesting incorrect ftp url. I decided to try to download the version I already have (7.0(17) )since I don't know what the highest version is), just to test the url ...

ftp://ftp.avaya.com/incoming/Up1cku9/SoftwarePub/7_0GA_Builds/VOICEMAIL/VMPRO7_0_17.exe

and I get an error. It looks like Avaya have changed the 'VOICEMAIL' directory to something else...

Avaya have put their software/firmware behind SSO login. To stop unqualified/unaccredited people from accessing it, at least that's the theory :)

Sounds like a good theory, but I was able to pull the ADMIN without a problem :) Oh well, the VM version I have seems to work fine ...

It is not there anymore.
They don't use those ftp links anymore.

tlpeter how do you know that a ATM4V2 works with 8.1(63) and above? Was that Version release the first GA for 8.1? I ask because I am running on 8.1(63) and my ATMV2 is not lighting my trunk LEDs but is lighting the LEDs on the ATM4U.

I am currently upgrading the switch to 8.1(65)
