In my Device Manager I have RAS Async Adapter marked with yellow exclamation sign.
When try to uninstall it receiving:
“Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer”
Please let me know how I can fix it.

Hi Ben,
No problem m'8.
Gues I have to dload this driver from a/m new link:
i945GCt-SN
R2.35 12/10/2009
60883.9 KB
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

OS Support:Win2000,Win98SE,Windows 7,Windows 7_64,WinME,WinXP

Please confirm if this one is a right driver for me.
Thanks for assistance,

Bronan,

I goofed once again...

driver: lan116.exe

DL Link: ftp://ftp.aopen.de/pub/driver/mb/sis/lan/

now that should be the correct one... but rechecking you may already have this driver from the other site, I would still DL the one from AOpen, just on the fact that driver is known to be clean (I am not familiar with DriverStock, on how safe the website is etc.)...

the link I gave earlier, somehow said it was a RealTek NIC, but in actual it is a SiS NIC, that is what one gets when posting half asleep and not paying attention...

Dload and try to install lan116.exe which is SiS LAN PC Driver, but driver remain unrecognized after installation ( new hardware not appear in task bare )
Try also to Update RAS Async Adapter with a/m driver but again received message " not better driver is found"
What is your opinion -may I remove entry for RAS Async Adapter from the Registry and them delete it from DM, or this is not allwed

There should be no problem in doing so, Bronan, but it probably will not work, seeing that the drivers that get loaded thereafter are the same ones...

have you checked the RAS services to see if they are not set to Disabled?

Is the boot order listing in the Bios correct, is there a listing for a Network location for a boot device? The reason I ask is because of that earlier error (way back when) that started this long post off.

Have you ever not had the Device Manager error too? That is why I asked if you had the original drivers CD that sometimes is supplied with a Motherboard.

Hi Ben,
I can not locate RAS Async Service .
Checked all Network services one by one , but can not find RAS dependencies in any of them.By the way , only two services of NET are disabled. other ones are Manual or Automatic.
If you can address me which services I should check, let me know , please.
Hi linney,
This problem with RAS is very old- I can not remember from when it lasts.
I have Motherboard CD delivered when I purchase PC, but after while I Updated this MB with new BIOS version.
Following tutorials from thread779-1353324: XP Ras Async Problem - code 31, in my case this didn't work, but for author of thread this was solution.
I am able to delete Registry entry of RAS and after Update the driver, but Windows alwys dload the same version of driver-
5.1.2535.0 from 01.07.01 (Microsoft) installed

Sorry, for not being clear enough, as I am using a non english XP install, the names will be off...

make sure that all services that deal with Remote Access and Network are set to MANUAL or Automatic, note down the ones that are set to DISABLE (in order to shut them down later again)

e.g. Remote Access Service, Application Layer Gateway Service...

does or did your computer have a MODEM installed at any time, or is there a MODEM installed?

if so, can you remove the MODEM (if you do not need it) and restart?

so far, anything that I have read about RAS ASYNCRONOUS DRIVERS etc. lead me to believe that either a MODEM is installed or was installed (this could include Software installed for accessing Mobile Phones)......

Remote Access Service, Application Layer Gateway Service...all set to Manual
Only three of services which in some way can be in connection with RAS are Disabled and will try later what you suggest.
I have Modem installed on my PC as a reserve if my actual connection fail , also as a dual boot I have second OS- Win 98SE and I keep Modem for this OS .
For your info, if I try to connect to the net using Modem in XP Pro , I have no problems at all- but yellow sign is present all the time.

I was looking through some links (below) and found mention of a RAS repair tool from Microsoft. You may want to have a look at that tool (RArepair.exe).

DUN VPN error 31, A device attached to the system is not functioning

Missing RAS Async adapter drivers[MOVED FROM WINDOWS]

Dloaded rarepair.zip , run it and after reboot this tool uninstalled Dual-up connection and all RAS Asyncron Driver and files in connection with.
RAS disappears from DM.
Checking in Event Viewer /System noticed error:
Source: Service Control Manager
category: None
Error Event ID: 7023
User: N/A
computer: xxxxxx
"The Computer Browser service terminated with the following error:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
Changed Computer Browser service from "Automatic" to "Manual" and after reboot this error no more appear.
But problem which remain is that from Computer Browser service under dependencies are SERVER and WORKSTATION and if Computer Browser is not started Server and Workstation will be out.
What you advice, please.

The Computer Browser Service "depends on" (relies on them running) the Server and WorkStation Services, and not the way you are interpreting it, it is the other way around.

One common reason for the Computer Browser Service to fail to start is "because it has no work to do" if the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is not enabled in the Network Adapter Properties.

Also make sure File and Printer sharing is ticked in Windows Firewall.

Try also start windows firewall, auto updates. security center services to fix this.

Sorry for my ignorance.
It is true File and Printer sharing was no ticked in the Network Adapter Properties.
Windows Firewall of my PC is disconnected probably because of Eset Smart Security- this one has his own firewall - so is not possible to apply what you suggest.
I check my Registry after running rarepair.exe tool and found that sub entries from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318} -from 00001 to 00008 were removed from Registry.
Seems that present problem overcoming my knowledge .
I only know that this problem is slowing my machine significantly.

After Recovery of my partition C\, Windows Firewall is enabled again and I ticked File and Printer sharing.

I am in dilemma what to do now :
-live the things as they are now with damn RAS Async Driver problem, or
-apply rarepair.exe and see what will happend

After the recovery how is the machine running? If it is running smoothly then my advice is to stay with the current configuration despite that error in the Device Manager.

One day you will have a new machine, and will have swapped this machine for a whole bundle of new and different problems. Don't you just love "computing".

Maybe I am asking to much from my old machine- , probably- but as you say I feel actual problem as one challenge thus more because is present for many years and I was not able to solve it in spite a lot of efforts and help from people like you and others.
Contacted people from MS and they advice me to remove Modem to resolve RAS problem.
I am not Computer Guru , just common user who love "computing", but in this case I am feeling defeated.
What is strange on the Google found I am not alone with this damn problem , but only "remedy" from MS is rarepair. exe tool.
Thanks very much for your assistance and help m'8.

bronan,

Do remember this is a "professional" forum, and one of the specific items mentioned in the posting policies (link just below where you'd submit a new post) is using profanity in the forums.

See here if you can't find the link.

Hi Ben,
I feel system not run as should be in normal circumstances.
I wish to update this RAS Async Driver , but my problem is how to get right one.
As I stated before. if going through MS update , always receiving message -MS can not find better diver than installed- the same I have -5.1.2535.0 from 01.07.01 (Microsoft) installed, but his one Windows can not see.(Code 31)

Would you been so kind and illuminate me how I damage this forum and what is my "profanity".
Problem what I expose in my posts here is one of unsolved bugs and technical question for expert people of this forum,
If any one think that my posts are inappropriate - I deeply apologize.

Here's why I mentioned what I did. The posting policies are pretty plain, really.

You can post about an unsolved bug, etc without the expletives. Those are not required in any question or answer.

Frankly, this site's limiting of folks using vulgarity and such has been one of the main reasons I've preferred to participate. It is indeed professional, and you don't have to worry about being offended in the truly technical forums.

The replacing of 3 letters with dashes in the 2 instances of the same word was by me. The highlighting as well.
