I have a RAID that had a drive go bad #2...replaced the drive and the rebuild started automatically. Failed within 5 minutes with a Sense key error on drive #5. Data is still available but #2 is offline. This is a Dell server with PERC array unit 600 gb.. Dell says backup, replace both drives and restore. This is a little scary for us for a few reasons so we are looking to try to repair drive #5. Can we defrag, chkdsk, repair an array and/or just that drive. Running a consistency check tonight. The error we are getting is

PERC 3/DC Controller 1, Array Disk 0:5 Sense Key = 3, Sense Code = 11, Sense Qualifier = 2.

Thanks for any ideas.

Check the manufacturer's site for the meaning behind that sense code error.

This is what dell says..

In this case, the customer should take the following actions:

Back up the data from the degraded array. (This step is not necessary if a known, good backup is available with current data).
Change out the Hard Drives
Recreate and initialize the virtual disk
Restore the data to the array.

I would like to try to fix the drive first..
