Putting M3902/M3903 back in service

Whats the easiest way to temporarily take a M3902/M3903 out of service and then back in service. For example, if the phone gets unpluged for a period of time, it seems to get put OOS by the PBX. And the only way I've found to get it back INS is to make a minor change on the phone...
