Is there a specific port it has to go in? The documentation mentions a station port. There are 4 ports in the back our BCM50 and it looks like 1 and 2 are active and 1 is being used. I believe one is a network port. Do I have to have key-codes for an ATA device just to turn it on? Its in Geneva and under the European or Swiss standard. I understand that the port numbers correspond to cetain types of ports and locations. What port number range are the ATAs? I'm guessing I need a license for it. If someone knows for sure...please let me know.

An ATA goes on any Digital port the you have.

There are 4 Analog phone ports on the main unit, but you need Keycodes to use them.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

I have been trying to configure an analog device for hours without success. Any help would be appreciated

As Acewarlock said, you will need to have the keycodes to use these. If you have already resolved that portion there are 4 ports configured specifically for analog devices. And their indicated on the Nortel Patch panel if you have one. Or will need to check wiring configuration chart to determine which pair they are if you using 66 or 110 blocks.

anuedwardlobo: what do you mean and what have you done so far. a little more info is needed.

The system has two ata2 devices connected to it. The first one was connected to the fax machine. When I tried to configure the second one I accidently put a digital extension on the first one.
Now I can configure both the systems but they don't show active. I cannot receive or send faxes from either.
Please help

If your using an ATA you need a digital port as was already expalined. They start at the bottom (very unusual) of your 66 block or the right side of your 110 block. In other words, violet/slate, and proceed for 11 more pairs. Your built in analogs start on the 5th pair down or white/slate and proceed for 3 more pairs.

First of all, make sure you have analog dial tone with a butt set on both ATAs. Then dial an internal ext# to ID your ATA's ext#s. Now, you dial back to that # and see if you get ring generation and can answer.

I don't have a dial tone. I have not changed anything on this port. I just connected a digital extension and then realising that I did the wrong thing reconnected the fax machine.
Is there any way the port might have blown off
I have another ATA and can try putting that in to see if it works.

Did you plug the Digital phone into the ATA?

Do you mean you plugged a digital tel into the Telephone Icon side of the ATA? Is the ATA what you plugged the tel into or is it a station jack out in the office that wires back to an ATA? Either way you have multiple digital ports to play with and 2 ATAs, one of which hasn't been messed with.

I have not seen an ATA go bad by accidently plugging in a digital tel. Your overlooking something. An ATA doesn't have to be programmed to have dialtone just has to have power and be on a working digital port.

Make sure your using ports from the end of your amphenol 25 pair colorcode!

I have a digital dn. Nothing is connected to the port. When i try to change the model to analog it changes back to one of the digital phones. Any reason why its doing this

Unless you connect a ATA to the port it will revert back to Digital as that is what it is.

Unplug what ever device you have plugged in and then reset the port to analog. If you unable to change the setting even after you unplugged your fax machine from it your chasing the port/extension

Ooops.... Sorry hit the send button by accident.

As long as something is plugged in (phone or fax) the system won't allow you to change the model or configuration setting.

initially i connected a digital extension to check the port number. When that digital extension came up i checked active connections to find the port number
i then removed the digital extension and did not put the analog one yet. I then tried to change the model to analog but it still changes to the initial digital extension.
I even tried changing the dn to a new unused dn but no luck

The ATA has to be attached for the KSU to recognize that port as analog.

Its now working..!! Thanks very much guys. I invested literally a whole day and half to set this up without success. With your help finally got this working. Many thanks
