I have a situation where staff in an office need to be able to dial *57 on a Mitel 5300 series phone, where *57 is a telco vertical service code (VSC) not a Mitel feature code.

I've tried manually dialing 9 (for an outside line) and then *57 but the phone gives me a fast busy. I've also tried programming a system speed call to dial *57 as well as 9 *57, but in both cases the system gives me a fast busy.

How do you set something like this up on a Mitel 3300 MXe II running software version 5.0?

We need to know what type of trunks you have.

Also, is this code dialed before the destination digits or after.

I imagine this works something like a CIC code. If not please elaborate CIC

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

You could set up a different ARS access code, say 8, pointing to an ew route (using the same trunk group that dial 9 uses) and on that new route use a new Digit Mod that deletes 1 (the access code 8) and inserts *57 ahead of the number dialed. The staff would dial 8 plus the number they are calling and the 3300 would send the call to the carrier with the *57 added ahead of the dialed number. We have this working on a number of sites using PRI trunks and analog trunks. Haven't tried it with SIP trunks though.

The purpose of *57 is to log the call with the telco security department. The issue is that someone is placing inappropriate calls to one of our staff members. I looked through the logs but the caller ID is being blocked. I talked with the telco and they said the next time the staff member receives a call from this person they should hang up and immediately dial *57 so that their security department will log the caller information. Thus the need to have the 3300 pass *57 to the telco instead of thinking the person is using a feature code incorrectly.

@ kwbMitel - That office has digital trunks. Being self taught on the Mitel 3300 doesn't help me answer your question much better than that I'm afraid. If you could list which form(s) to use to find the specific details you are looking for I can certainly navigate the pages. There is no number to be dialed before or after *57, just *57 going out to the telco to report these unsolicited calls.

@ SXWizard - I'm had a look at the ARS forms but I don't see anything that lists an ARS access code. Which form(s) would I have to access to make this sort of change?

Thank you for your help with this.

The *57 code is designed for analog trunks. It cannot work on digital trunks as far as I know. Even on Analog trunks the code would need to be dialed on the trunk that received the call. You received some bad advice I'm afraid.

The technician I spoke with was aware that we have a digital trunk and still insisted that *57 would work. I'm also skeptical about it working as there's no way, as far as I understand, to prevent a second call from coming across the PRI and *57 mistakenly recording that call as the offending caller, but either way I have to test it out to confirm it works with the hope that repeated calls will eventually narrow down the offending caller to the authorities.

On a PRI the signalling channel is completely separate from the Speech channels.

There is absolutely no way on heaven and earth that an outbound call has any knowledge of previous calls and/or channels that they were made on.

your skepticism is well placed.

If you get the police involved, the Telco can trace all calls for a period of time.

Thank you for your assistance. I will contact the telco again to confirm we cannot dial *57 over a PRI to see what other options they have available.
