I am working on a Option 11c and have a M2008 set

User would like to goto voicemail when pressing the
message key. But gets dialtone instead of VM ( I am thinking maybe Handsfree line out?).
6245 is the VM.

I noticed 2 things,

1)This set is programmed as a 2616 set, can this cause an issue or will it work on a M2008 even though prg as a 2616

2)MWK is programed on the handsfree key, I am going by a picture I found on google of M2008 set as I am very new to PBX/sets.

Msg key is programed on Key 6 (see below)

KEY 00 SCR 6552 0 MARP
01 SCR 6750 0 MARP
02 TRN
03 AO6
04 CFW 16
05 RGA
06 MWK 6245

Does this set need to be prg as a M2008 to function correctly?

Can you prg on the handsfree key?

Would appecate any help for a newbie in the pbx world

Yes, if a 2008 set is plugged in, it will work the way it should if it is programmed as a 2008.

One could compare it to this. You program KEY 3 as an SCR/DN key, but put on a label that say Message. It will still be the SCR/DN key even though it says Message.

The 2616 ans 2008 keys are in different places

Don't have access to the phone, working remotely. I will check for that thank.

Let's say its a HF phone, is it ok program over the HF key?

As a general rule for 2008 sets:

-If the phone has a digit display, leave KEY 7 blank and make CLS ADD or TDD.
--If you leave the CLS NDD and you program KEY 7 the display will not work.

-If the phone is handsfree capable (has a mic), leave KEY 6 blank and make CLS HFA.
--If you leave the CLS HFD and you program KEY 6, the microphone will not work.

if you program key 6 or key 7 can you set them back to default without completely rebuilding the phone?

Yes. Since you set CLS to NDD and HFD (presuming the phone is a M2008D or M2008D/HF) to be able to program keys 6&7 respectively then you simply reverse the process by nulling key(s) 6 and/or 7 and changing the CLS to HFA (for key 6) and/or ADD (for key 7).
