Win2KPro:

When attempting to open a .bmp, or .jpg, I have a user getting a MS Photo Editor error msg "No file format information can be found in the registry". Except for the mention of the registry, I assumed it was file association. Upon further review, I see that both file types are associated with a program. So any ideas??

Regards,

Matt Peters

I had same problem. The following steps resolved it.

Change the Permissions in the Registry (regedt32):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine
Go to Software - Microsoft - Shared Tools
Open Graphics Filters
Click Security (on MenuBar)- Permissions
Select Users or Everyone and give them Full Control

Yep I've been there to with CGM formats - similar fix.

You can use regini tool to deploy registry permission fix to many users.
