In the previous thread, Licenses/Software to upgrade IP Office 500 from R4.2 to R6..., I came to the conclusion that the best way to upgrade my system to support CCR is through:

01 x [tt]Avaya IP Office Advanced Edition Remote Feature Activation - ( v. 6 ) - lic[/tt]
- MFN: 229424
01 x [tt]AVAYA IPO LIC CUSTOMER SVC AGT RFA 20[/tt]
- MFN: 217653

Does the R6 software come with the license key or can I get it from the Avaya's support site?

How does the upgrade process work? (I keep seeing mentions of putting the software on an SDHC card.)

Am I going to be able to "restore" the current configuration or do I have to rebuild it?

You need to get the licence key/keys from an Avaya Business Partner, Then you simply download the new Manager and upgrade as you normally would after adding the upgrade licence no rebuild required :)

Why did you come to the conclusion that you need the advance edition ?
Do you need contact store ?
Do you need database inetgration ? (vmpro)
Do you need vb scripting ? (vmpro)
Do you need text to speech ? (vmpro)

What you need is a supervisor license and agent licenses.
It will save you at least $2000.

The ip500 has a license dongle on the back (smartcard)
The number on that card is your license dongle number that the BP needs to know to get licenses enabled on that card.

The Sd card is for the IP500v2 (new hardware)
You can change the config by adding the license keys.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Your recommendation, though welcome, seemed to be a bit cumbersome for me to actually implement with the resources I have available. (ASIDE: The owners of my company want to implement this change with the minimum of costs, which means that I can only rely on myself, the kindness and expertise of those in this forum, and maybe a few other websites.)

Do you need contact store?

Actually, it could be useful because we do a bit of call recording on our sales calls. I had thought about it before but other than convenience there was no other reason to pick it up. Now there may be.

Do you need database integration? (vmpro)

I believe that our licensing already allows that but I could be wrong... In any case, I don't "need" it yet but it might be useful to capture parts orders if our customers spend too long on hold.

Do you need vb scripting? (vmpro)

I don't see a reason to use VB Script with it, yet.

Do you need text to speech? (vmpro)

It could be useful, see answer to "Integration".

PS. Like with some other things, I think this is a "build it and they will use it" type of situation.

All those question where because the advanced edition is not only a CCR supervisor license.
It is all i have written down.

If you want CCR then you need the CCR supervisor license and CCR agent licenses.

Contact store is needed if you do a lot of call recording.
Contact store make a library (database) instead of putting all recordings in to the users mailboxes.

I do not tel you not to buy the advanced edition, you have to make up your mind yourself :)

I'd wager that you will spend more time and effort and probably money trying to install and integrate and maintain these products yourself rather than paying a trained Engineer/BP to do it all for you in the first place.... That's some good advice for you :)

I hope that you don't end up being prophetic... However, my bosses want this at bottom dollar. I can only hope that it doesn't choke us all as we swallow this pill.

i would put your foot down.

tell them you arent trained and arent comfortable with it. what are you going to do if you bork the upgrade? call the bp that you didn't want to pay to sort it for you and end up paying twice as much?

How much will that downtime cost the business?

The people here are helpful, but no one is going to jump in the car if it gets screwed up.

You clearly arent trained, and you are talking about upgrading the whole switch as well as some of the advanced apps. You are asking for trouble.

Just pay the bill and let someone who knows what they are doing take care of it.

I don't mean that to sound patronising or whatever. it's just the facts.

most companies these days try to do it the cheap way. Had a call last night from one that moved their own phone system and oops it did not work well afterwards any more. So I went there with parts and whatnot and the problem was that the stuff was not connected correctly. $600 later they really saved money doing it themselves LOL.
Happens all the time, people trying to get stuff working and seeing it is not brain surgery some do it well (the ones that do lots and lots of RTFM before) other less. But trying to fix a buggered up installation of something takes much more time that doing it from scratch the right way.
There is a difference between cheap and cost effective but I also have found out that a lot of people with business degrees don't know the f@#$*&@ difference and just go for cheap no matter what it costs.
