Has anyone else experienced (and managed to fix) a problem in Word 2000 whereby the right indent for a paragraph changes without user intervention.

This has been happening on around 10 out of my 50 machines (all of which are identical in every respect).

It generally happens when a user is changing the paragraph formatting on ANOTHER paragraph. They then check the rest of their document and find other paragraphs have a right indent setting of either + or - 0.5cm which they have NOT set.

Any thoughts? Jamie Gillespie

If the paragraphs that are changing all carry the same paragraph style, then maybe Automatically Update (for the Style) has been checked.

The following are for Word97 - Word2000 may be different
1. click in a paragraph that has gone awry
2. from the format menu choose style
3. click on the modify button
4. untick automatically update
5. choose OK
6. choose close

hope this helps

Thanks for that! However the box is unticked!!!
Should have mentioned that not all paragraphs change to the same right indent setting either, just to make it more complicated Jamie Gillespie

Have your users (and your image) go to Tools-Autocorrect, Autoformat as you type tab. Uncheck the top and bottom section checkboxes. I hate them. Wait till you get XP. Yuuuuk!
