Tried using GMX.com, tried using gmail, but does not work. finally to be able to validate if i'm getting out i installed hmail server on a local server where a run the manager and monitor. configured the SMTP tab with local IP address, username and password. users have voicemail turned on and their email address entered. I can run a telnet smtp session to the local box and see the connection show up in hmail log. I have the IP routes setup as 0.0.0.0 / 0.0.0.0 with the local gateway 192.168.1.254. Finally when i try to leave a message in a users mail box, nothing shows up in hmail log nor do i see anything referring to email in the monitor. What gives?????

Open monitor and go to filters and then trace options.
Then go to the tab called "call" and select the necessary option for embedded voicemail like email and other stuff you want to see.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

no need to tick the pc voicemail option then :)

What are you relaying it off?

Can you test it first? I made an FAQ just for these kinds of issues.

I'm relaying off of a locally installed hmail server. hope i answered your question right. when i follow your article and do the test i get the following then stuck.

220 xxx.xxx ESMTP
helo xxx.xxx
250 Hello.
mail from:voicemail@xxx.com
250 OK
rcpt to:user@MMM.com
530 SMTP authentication is required.
rcpt to:<user@MMM.com>
530 SMTP authentication is required.

should be easy then,

on the SMTP Tab, click "server requires Authentication"
add username and password

merge and test

i know i didn't mention that, but i have always had the full username and password entered in the Avaya interface (not the command prompt). i double checked several times to ensure i have no typos in user/pwd.

i dont think so since it is asking for the smtp user, not domain user. to authenticate to the smtp server would usually need the email address as user then the password. in addition the server is not part of a domain.

i think the main issue is that in the smtp server logs, i dont even see the avaya IP office making an attempt to connect to it. at all..
