Problems with dialing 4 digit ext. and not hearing the person, dialing full number you can hear them

Hey everyone, I am noob to the cs1000. I am having a problem with one of my sites and their extensions. When dialing their 4 digit ext., the phone will ring and then pick up as if someone is on the line, but I can't hear them. Now if I were to dial their full number at the said site, I get through just fine and can hear them and vice versa. Can someone please enlighten me on what would cause this issue. Like I said before, I am a noob to the cs1000, and have navigated it pretty well thus far, but this has me stumped. Thanks to all who reply.
 
Are they at a different site than you are? Does 4 digits "go over the TIE lines" or something?

Yes they are at a different site. LOL...sorry ghtrout, I have no idea what the TIE lines are. I am literally going through the motion until I can get the proper training for the cs1000 in september.
 
Just to clarify, when you call 4 digit, is the person at the other end getting the call and picking up, or are they not getting anything?
 
trvlr1 - yes they are picking up and getting the call and are able to hear me fine. However, I am unable to hear them
 
There could be several things causing this depending on the trunking between the 2 sites. Best to get a local vendor out to check it out.
 
KCFLHRC - I will take note of that idea. I appreciate the input from you. I will try to troubleshoot it a little more, then go with that if I can't get it to work properly.
 
Let me ask you a few things
1. Do you know how to log into the switch and go into different loads?
2. Are you familiar at all with what type of CS1000 you have? There are at least 4 possible types, Chassis, Cabinet, SG, MG and they all can have different types of hardware.
3. Do you know what release the switch is on?

Your 4 digit dialing could be accomplished by a simple point to point T-1 or PRI or it could be using H323 or SIP trunks. The T-1/PRI is a whole lot easier to troubleshoot than the IP trunking.


 
KCFLHRC - yeah i can log into the switch that is on site or our main switch at our admin site just fine. I am getting more familiar with the different loads. I am using ld 20 and ld 95 a lot for changes and for checking on tn's for a user. Honestly, I am not familiar with which type of CS1000 I have. I do know that all of them are attached to a rack, except for our admin site. It is actually on the wall. I know that some sites are 5.0 and some are 5.5. I do know that admin site is 5.5. Excellent point, I should check to see which sites have which versions. I am almost positive KCF that we are using T-1/PRI. Is there an easy way to find out if it is T-1/PRI or H323 or SIP trunks?

You should have more trunking than Route 0 if you have a point to point t-1
 
Can you copy and paste that info here for your trunking?
 
Before I do that KCF, should I login to the site with the issue or our main admin site?
 
Either site really, I would just like to see if we can figure out what kind of trunking is carrying the 4 digit dialing. Also if you can just go into LD 60 and at req type stat.

This will show you the status of all your t-1's

We really don't know yet what end the trouble is on

I was afraid of that. Looks like you are using IP trunking between the 2 sites. Your one way audio is more than likely a DSP issue on a media card, could be a signal server issue also. You really need to get a tech out to look at this.
