Problem with Exchange 2000 Service Packs

Hi gang,

I've got a win2K server, sp3, and exchange 2000 running sans service packs. I'd like to install sp1-3 for Exchange 2000. Sounds simple enough.

I've downloaded both the cumulative patches for Exchange 2000 SP2 and SP3 and saved them to one of my server's HD's. They are, predictably, .exe files. If I double click either of them, I get this error:

D:\temptrash\exchange sp\EX2KSP2_server.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

I've downloaded these ~180Meg files a couple of times each to make sure the dload was okay, and I'm getting them directly from the Microsoft website. I'm at a loss here.

It's somewhat urgent as I can't install Symantec AntiVirus Filtering without at least SP1, and what with all the Virus hubbub going around, that sure would be nice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried applying Exchange SP3? I may be wrong but I am thinking that SP3 includes the fixes in SP1 and SP2.

Yep, in my understanding, you are correct that the SP2 and SP3 patches are cumulative - that is, they include the previous patches.

The problem I am having is that I cannot apply either of them - I try to run the .exe files and I get that error that says the patch files aren't valid Win32 applications. this occurs with both SP2 and SP3 patches.

I know this suggestion is out in left field, but try renaming the exe to the 8.3 file format standard.

I'll try anything. :)

Didn't work, though. Was worth a shot.

Darn, by the look of that MS KB article, I thought you had solved me issue.

I dragged the file around into a few different drives and made sure it was in paths without spaces. I also checked to make sure it wasn't trying to run another copy of the file as discussed in the KB article, but no luck.

Good suggestion, though. I really thought you had it. I think you're close...

Ok, last idea. If this doesn't work my solution is to format and reinstall. Scan for viruses. I searched another forum and found people haveing similar issues (just not Exchange SP's).
