If I had known I was going to live so long, I would have taken better care of myself. I underwent a disk crash, and was not the least bit shaken, thinking I had everything backed up. Unfortunately, I had all DATA backed up, but not programs.

I tried to rewrite a program I wrote more than ten years ago, and am having a problem getting it to work right. I have 5 work areas: 1) static data that relates variably to the name and address; 2) the name and address data; 3) secondary data which only applies to 25 in 1000 records; 4) tertiary data, which relates one to one to 2); 5) history, which is wildly variable.

I wrote use 1), use 2) and relate it to 1), use 3 and relate it to 2), use 4 and relate it to 2), and use 5) and relate it to 2). Can anyone even figure out what I am saying?

I didn't have the nerve to post my program and ask the posters to debug it.

Can anyone shed light on this?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

SET RELATION TO [<expression> INTO <alias>
[,<expression> INTO <alias>...]]

Links two or more open database files according to
a key expression common to all related files.

Does this ring a bell?

thanks for replying to my message - actually I had finally found a backup copy of my other program and found that, instead of they way I interpreted the manual (wrong, of course), that I could set all my files in different work areas, and then relate them to the maintenance file all at once, delimited by commas. that was the rub, relating the five files. thanks again for responding!
