I found a thread on this forum regarding these files,
I googled them because I've got chronic disk space problems on my C: volume on the company's server and these bad boys are taking up lots of the space.

I'm what passes for the IT manager at a small company with about 20 user network. Our relatively new server was inexplicably set up with a partition which limits the C: volume to 12GB out of a total of about 120GB, the rest being on the D: volume. My Priv1.edb is about 5GB and in total i have 200MB of space left on the C: volume.

I wish i could start again and have the thing split a bit more sensibly but i was in the dark when the IT fella was setting it up. Server stuff very new to me.

Anyway, i think i will be ok for a good while if i can move these edb files to the D: volume and point the Storage Groups i read about in the other thread to access the new address.

I wanted to ask some proper professionals whether there were any other issues i needed to consider here or if i can just go ahead and past the files somewhere on the D volume and change the settings in the Storage Group databases tab.

Moving the databases and transaction log files is not a problem. You just have to browse to the directory of the new drive on the database tab of the mailbox store properties and then click on save. There are no issues in moving databse and log files as far as my experience is concerned.

msh2007 is right. The store will get automatically dismounted, then moved, then mounted when you move it. You should probably do this for both the mailbox store and the public folder store. Then move the transaction logs, too.

Something else you might want to look into is where your Exchange based AV is storing the quarantine. If it's on the C:, you might want to move that.

As 58sniper said, the store will automatically get dismounted which means it will make Exchange unavailable to your users during this move. Not a big deal at all, but something probably better done during lunch or after 5.

This is great news. Thanks all.

Just one thing though. Where would i find the transaction logs you mention?
