CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH APACHE?
IM TRYING TO MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO the INTERNET TO BE ABLE TO SHARE FILES WITH FRIENDS BUT, I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS USING THE D-LINK 4500 EXTREME GAMING ROUTER I DONT KNOW HOW TO PORT FORWARD ON THIS ROUTER.
PLEASE HELP.
THANK YOU

when i type in 192.168.0.10 into the browser all i get is a page that says it works

To access from the outside world, you use the public ip address. That's the address assigned to the router and the one you see when you go to whatsmyip.com. That is the address your friends would use.

ok so in order for my friends to access files that i want to share they would just type in the ip address that i get from when i type in whatismyip.com?
correct?
and how would i share files?
can you help me on how to do that please?

i tried typing in the ip address that i got from going to whatismyip.com into the web browser but i get a page that says your search returned no results

I know nothing about Windows setups but look in "Program Files/apache2/htdocs/". You may have to look around for a while but you are looking for a sub-directory called htdocs. That is where you will put your files. If you want it to load automatically, call it index.html. If you want someone to be able to download a file, they would use your public ip and the files name like this: A window will pop up asking them what they want to do with the file. Download is one of the options. This is kind of a hoakie way of doing things but it's a start.

You need to be outside of your network to use the public ip address or it will cause a request that loops back to itself.

ok i see a file called htdocs
say i want to share a file like umm i dont know lets just say a song for now...what i would have to do is put the song or paste the song into the htdocs folder?
or how would i do that?
thank you

Yes, you should be able to test it from another computer on your net by using Well it's almost 1:00 am here so I have to get to bed soon. I have to get up in about four hours. Do you think you have enough to play with for a while?

hey guess what..i put in a song in the folder that is called
htdocs and i typed in my ip address and the song i put in there came up
so i guess its working now kool!
thank you very very much for all your help you did a great job. i wish everyone was as helpfull as you were.
now all i need to do is to secure it.
thank you

do you by any chance have aim or yahoo instant messanger?

one more question..
in order to use my web server or to share files with friends,
i would have to have apache running otherwise i or my friends cant access my network correct?

Yeseverything he said is pretty much the same stuff we went over but we didn't change the port apache listens on.

That is correct. If apache isn't running they will get an error.

ok i got everything working it is now available online and everything.
now all i need to do is secure apache.
how wouldi go about doing that?
thank you

ok im still messing with this
you said this earlier in the thread

i gave my friend the ip address that i got when i went to whatismyip.com and just gives them a blank page.
i tried giveing them the 192.168.0.10 ip address and it gives them a blank page also.
