I think Im in the indifferent catagory, simply because i can see its merits, but also i feel its a bit of a hash up.

why couldnt they launch it as an app from a web interface? i think it being bound to the browser is totally naff!

I was told intertalk(?) lauched a phone manager app for their hosted IP cisco handset thats looks rather like Phone Manager which is web based app......

come one Avaya - catch up!!!

I'm 100% behind them on making all new software browser based. Having to worry about what version of Windows the client is running, or the fact that they aren't running Windows at all is outdated to say the least.

For a first release I think 1XP is good, not great. With future releases and the ability to add widgets for CCR, ContactStore and such the appliation will be better.

I agree with Kyle
I am absolute 100% for web apps like one-x portal !
No need to worry about client OS and hardware
For now i miss a queue in 1XP for replacing phone manager pro

I like the idea of it, and as Kyle said it's not bad for a first effort, it's not great either, I personally find it a bit sluggish to act on anything you ask of it and also the fact you can't resize or organize the different panes yourself is an annoyance :)

Cost

Working in the SMB - many customers' don't have (don't want, can't afford, don't want to / can't maintain) a server based network. Forcing customer's to use a thin client approach is a poor response to the issues of a thick client.

That being said, I hate having to install 20+ copies of PMP and TAPI

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I'm not sure why you would have to "maintain" a server based network to run either 1XP or CCR. I have both running at a client who has every PC running in the "WORKGROUP" workgroup without a network server nor domain. The only server out there is the one we installed which runs W2K8 for 1XP and VMP and a virtual machine with W2K3 for CCR.

I've worked for 4 business partners now, all with a primary focus on SMB, and not once have we had a VM server that was less than $2000. I figured this was normal. Am I wrong?

Currently we have 3 classes of "servers":
HP dx2400 with Vista for 25-users and/or 4-ports of VM at $500

HP ML150 G6 with 2008 for "Preferred Edition" without limits at $2100. This will also run 1XP or ContactStore.

HP ML150 G6 with 2008+2003 and an additional 6GB of RAM and 160GB 2nd HDD for "Advanced Edition" for $3000. This will run VMP, CCR, 1XP and ContactStore. This conforms to the virtualization guidlines set by Avaya to be announced in Q4.

Nothing in IP Office, save for UMS with Exchange 2007 integration, requires a "server based network". Nothing is required for the client to "maintain" unless they are in there screwing around with the darn thing.

Maybe we are cheapskates. I can't think of *any* voicemail machine we have supplied that uses any server operating system. We have 1 or 2 customers that have supplied their own hardware (and from memory 1 has a server OS, which is shared with other network "roles")

If I said to our sales staff "add £12-1500 for a VM server" they'd faint!

As I say, we are in the SMB arena (emphasis on S, I suspect that that Kyle has the emphasis on M)

>Nothing in IP Office, save for UMS with Exchange 2007 integration, requires a "server based network".
Granted - there isn't any need for a domain - unless you are using exchange.

>Nothing is required for the client to "maintain" unless they are in there screwing around with the darn thing.

Fair point, (but Anti-virus, MS updates may become issues)

It must be a UK thing, most of our customers supply their own pc's especially when they find out VM runs on XP, I'd say less than 10% get the PC/server from us and NONE they supply are over £500/$800 that's for sure :)

I'm only just catching up with v5, but the biggest problem I have with 1XP is that it requires a very expensive bundle licence to use it. We have a lot of customers running terminal services/citrix and thought this was the answer to our prayers.

We've just specced up a system for a 200 user site who use TS throughout. How likely is it that they'll go for 1XP for a mere £14,000 extra..

From the Technical Bulletin 109;

• Maximum Logged in Client Sessions is 100 Licensed Users per server. A subseque
• Maximum 1 one-X Portal Server connected within an SCN Network

quality - seems Avaya once again too quick to lauch a new product to market.

I think it needs some time before I would convince my customers to give up PM

what about a softconsole version?

For a first release it is good
There will not be a softconsole version
There is no need to
A receptionist should handle calls and use softconsole for that
If he or she needs a computer then this should be another system

Also I think every time I launch Adobe reader it starts to download an update in the background, which means when you try to close your browser window it hangs and usually crashes, bloody Adobe :)
