A co-worker and I were recently assigned the task of documenting our Merlin locations. The problem? Neither of us have any experience with this type of system. We'd love to go to a training class but haven't had any luck.

The question is: is anyone teaching Merlin-type classes any more?
 
To address the current situation of identifying the merlin stations I would have one person at a station that has a display and another person walk around and call the display station and record the extension number and location where the calls are intercoming from. The display will show what extension is calling to it. As far as training goes the answer is yes. Google it and you'll find out where this can be done.

Oh poop. I didn't do a very good job of explaining.

We're in a central 'corporate' office and need to document remote locations. We have to call the receptionist at each location and have them dial us into the Merlin/Magix.

I would love to go to each station like you suggested but our trave budget is almost non-existant.
 
What is it that you have to document?? If it is the entire system setup - then use WinSPM do download a "Print All" report per location. Expect to spend 50 minutes or maybe more per location. Setup your remote sites with names for each remote location. Choose "Manual" connection mode - which is via modem.

Setup a single-line phone with a duplex connector that you can hook up to your computer modem.

At WinSPM, open the sire and click on connect, click OK at the modem prompt - you should then get a screen that says have yourself manually transferred to the processor and wait for modem tone before clicking OK.

Dial the remote site, ask to be transferred to *10 (have then press Transfer - then dial *10). When you hear modem tone, put down your handset (don't hangup) - and press OK on the WinSPM screen.

You should get a password prompt - the default is craftr4 - unless someone changed it.

Click on the Standard SPM choice - once you get the 20L emulation screen, press system program, start/exit, more Print, then choose PRINT ALL - give it a name and click OK.

Figure on 50 minutes to get the whole report which will include all system/programming information.

When finished press Quit, then choose disconnect - wait for the system to disconnect then hangup your single-line phone.

Repeat for each site.

I appreciate the information everyone is providing so far.

I guess what I'd really like to know is if there are any training classes available anywhere or CBTs. We're not only going to be responsible for documenting the systems, but also for the maintenance on the systems.

I don't believe classes are offered any longer on the Merlin Legend system. Avaya is too busy with IP Office. However - you may just want to hire yourself a good Legend/Magix tech to help you out - when you need it. The manuals are long and cryptic - and not really organized in any reasonable fashion.

So far as we know, the systems are in about 18 of the lower 48 states. Some states have more than one system - I think there are 30 known systems at present.
 
That sounds like a quite formidable task for someone not familiar with these systems.

I am not sure if Avaya still offers training on these systems anymore, since they quit selling them last year.

Perhaps your company would like to think about "FARMING OUT" some of this work to one of the folks on this forum.

It's just a thought.
