Hi,

Some of my pictures are not showing in preview in "Windows picture and fax viewer". I can't open/edit/delete them too. Can't open with other programs either. Anyone knows what might cause this?

Thank in advance
Yuri

wrong file-header, corrupted images.......
have u tried i.e irfan-view?

No, don't even know what irfan-view is:), sorry.

Is there a ways to fix these corruped images?

Run CHKDSK on the partition/drive that the pictures are on, e.g. if they are under the "My Documents" folder (My Pictures), then they reside on the C: drive, you would type in the RUN BOX (or CMD window): chkdsk /f
this will check the integrity of the drive/partition...

Thanks Ben, I'll try it and let you know.

When you right-click on them do you get the "Open With" dialog? If you do, try re-associating them with your Photo Editor.

Try reregistering this .dll from the Start Run box (as Admin).

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).
Try a different user from Normal Mode.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Unfortunately none of those worked. I have recently install XP tools could to clean registry, could that caused problem? I uninstalled it now.

Cleaning the Registry is often a prelude to performing a reformat and clean install of the operating system. Make sure you have backed up your valuable data.

Before you get as as far as a clean install you could try a repair install. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

By the way, the message I get when I try to open or edit corrupted files:

"Access is denied, Make sure that the disc is not full or write-protected and that the file is corrently in use"?

argh! should have said that earlier...
