Phone Set Programming 1

Hi All,

Couple of quick ones...how can I take away out-bound (linepool)access from a particular phone set? We have a reception desk phone and I would like to deny access to our linepool and any long distance calls. Mainly the long distance is the problem. My second question deals with the same phone. I would like to be able to have the phone automatically dial a particular extension when the receiver is picked up. Is this possible?

The system is a MICS and we are using mostly 7310 and a few 7208 phone sets.

For the phone you want to restrict, if you hotline it to an internal number, there is no need to worry about toll restrictions or Pool access, because all calls from that station will go directly to another internal number when the reciever is lifted.
For the phone you want to restrict, go to
Terminals& Sets - Show
DN:XXX - Show
Line Access - Next
Capabilities - Show
Next to Hotline - Show
Change to Internal and enter the internal number that the hotline is to ring.
All calls from this set will go to the designated extension on lift, and can then be transferred to an internal or external number

Awesome! Sounds a little easier than I thought.

I'll give it a whirl and let you know how I made out.

One thing though...if I needed to restrict access to a second phone to block the long distance (without the hotiline feature enabled) how would I do that.

Ater you do it a few times, a lot of the Norstar programming is pretty straight forward. Its just a little obscure on first look. Just swallow your pride and think like Nortel...
For the set to restrict, go to
Terminals & Sets - Show
DN:XXX - Show
Next to Restrictions - Show
Restriction Filters - Show
Filter: here you have a choice of filters, but Filter 1 by default is a general restriction that you can modify by adding or removing restrictions and exceptions. For example, you can deny '1', but then allow '1-800' or any of the toll free 800 type numbers as an exception to the rule. After building your particular filter go back to heading &
Next to Set Filters - Show
Filter:2 (by default) - change to the filter you built
Next
Rls
Set is now restricted

You should still restrict the phone even though its programmed as a hotline. Once you go off-hook it will dial the hotline dn, if you hit your intercom or a line button on your phone before or after going off-hook you will be able to call out. I hate this problem, especially with 7100 sets because as soon as you release a call you get intercom dialtone from which you can do what you want. Kevin Clear

I have a minimal amount of experience programming the M7310, but I can't get the M7100 to accept the default password that I use with the 7310. I have a manual on the 7310, but not the 7100. Am I doing something wrong?

When you use restriction 1 you need to add an override of 1 to allow 866 and 855, 888 and 877 are already in there and I think 855 is coming out soon as a tollfree so may as well put it in now.

If you are trying to program from a 7100 you cannot do that. the 7100 dosen't have the controls to allow programming. If you are trying to use a COS password you will have to dial feature 6 8 then put in the password then you can make one toll call/attempt If this dosen't answer your question please explain more what you are trying to do and what results you expect to see. I am trying to program the call restriction feature and the external ringer feature on the 7100 phone. Is that done to the phone itself or to the phone extension? If it is the phone extension, I assume I take one of my 7310 phones and plug it into that extension, program it, then replace it with the 7100 phone?

All of the programming is done to the DN # of the station you want to restrict. You must do that programming from a M7310, M7324 or T7316 set to get access into the program template. Once you are in the program, all of the changes will be to DN:XXX with XXX being the extension number of the 7100 set.
But as jerryreeve says, to give you accurate programming steps, you have to lets us know what type of system (Modular,MICS, CICS or Compact) and the software version (DR5, R1T1 4.1 etc)
The steps are different in many of the different versions, and will be much easier for you to follow if the exact version is known.....

Thanks for the help. I am new to phone systems, so I will have to do some checking when I get to the office on Friday to find out that information. Is there a simple way to find that information? It may or may not be in the technical information I inherited from my predecessor. Thanks again.

Enter configuration programming, (next) to Maintenance, (show) (next) to version, (show) - write the info down. Go to the FAQs section in this forum and look up the ver no. on the list posted.
