I just assembled a new pc. Booted fine and i installed Windows XP and some apps. All of a sudden the pc kept shutting down and rebooting. I replaced the memory and psu and that wasnt it. I'm thinking its a voltage problem or possibly the cpu (AMD Sempron 2600) or the mobo ECS K8M800-M2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

reset default in BIOS and saved then diabled shadowing and caching and set PnP to manual instead of auto in BIOS. Didnt see any antivirus setting on mobo ECS K8M800-M2 BIOS. Im tryng another install.

windows installed ok but i rec'd a BCCode Error: Signature Error within windows. Also rec'd an Event ID error whiling installing office.

You've got a hardware problem - need process of elimination to find it (eg, try each stick of RAM on its own, if > 1 - otherwise try one from elsewhere, disconnect all non-essential hardware etc)

if u read my post from the start wolluf..u would know that i only have one memory module and try one that is working from another pc so thats not the problem.

fantom - I was just giving a generic start point for diagnosing hardware problem using elimination method - hence the etc. As this is a forum for professionals, I assume people will have agood idea of what I mean by this.
Your original info was also a bit sparse -
Booted fine and i installed Windows XP and some apps. All of a sudden the pc kept shutting down and rebooting.

All of a sudden? Like after you did what? From the rest of your posts its very unlikely XP could have run without problems for any length of time - unless there's something you've not told us about what you did between original install - which you say worked - and the start of rebooting (and how long was that - 5 minutes, and hour, a day). Better info gets a more informed response - obviously - otherwise we're just guessing and filling in the blanks.

Attached are the errors in my event viewer that occurred during windows update installs, ms office 2003 install and acrobat 7.0. This system has crashed nonstop.
The first errors are listed at the bottom of this list and the last errors are listed at the top. So the list is in reverse chrno order. I have the minidumps as well if needed.

Stop, let me get this right...

XP installed correctly... No Errors...
Office 2003 Installed correctly... No errors...
Adope Acrobat 7.0 Installed Correctly... No errors...

but when doing the Automatic Update you get the errors? and Crashes? is this correct?

or am I misreading what you have said sofar...

Does the PC crash at all with just XP installed, no Hotfixes and No SP2, with Office and Adobe, and Third Party Drivers installed at all???

what I read is basically that your HardDrive is becomming Corrupt at a certain point in your Install Procedure, thus causing the BSOD's and Crashes...

It actually froze while installing XP. All the errors happened while installing the updates and ms office and acrobat. Also
did a chkdsk to fix some HD problems.

When you got probs installing the OS and just the OS (no mobo CD drivers), you should have stopped right there, and not install anymore components as it just compounds the problems, and makes troubleshooting that much harder...

Kinda sounds like the CPU might be the Prob here... but I am going to suggest you try it first with the PSU from the Working system...

Case builders like to use cheap PSUs in their cases... even rated at 500w, these could be underpowered...

Ben

"If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer..."

gotcha..doing another fresh install of XP (w/o mobo drivers) and i'll see what happens. I ordered the same case prior for another customer becasue i did not have any problems with it. Case was $30 inc. 500w PSU..which your right..the wattage is probably alot less.

ok with 9 mins to go to complete the new OS install i got the BSOD:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
***STOP: 0x00000050 (0X850F000C, 0X804ED03C, 0X00000000)

It may well be incompatibility of the RAM to the MoBo, or a Damaged RAM stick, or a damaged XP CD... I suggest either to try a different Brand of RAM perhaps even a different SLOT, or use a different XP CD...

I got to admit, that I have no experience with ECS Boards at all...and am stumped myself at this point...

Ben

i tried a different XP CD. Let me try the RAM in a different slot first. If that doesnt work i'll try RAM from a working system.

I tried the RAM in a different slot and that didnt work. I tried RAM from a working system and the OS installed fine. I then rebooted. I installed the video drivers and rebooted and that was fine. I then installed some mobo drivers (RAID, LAN, IDE and sound) and then rebooted. Windows starts up but when i try to go into device manager the dialogue box doesnt open and the hourglass hangs up. Any ideas now?

So RAM seemed to be faulty... got that checked...

When installing the Mobo Drivers, leave the IDE drivers out...
ergo do not install the VIA IDE drivers... I had a Chaintech board that did not like the VIA drivers, locked up my system and corrupted the HD... So I let Windows install it's own drivers and they worked with out a hitch...

Ben

You'd probably need to find the SYS files to them in the Drivers Drawer located under System32 (c:/windows/system32/Drivers)... and that is an operation in itself... cuz, they aren't all that clearly written...

I believe you are pretty frustrated by now... I know I would be...

it'd probably be better to start afresh... and just install the drivers for the GFX Card, SATA, LAN and Sound... then just let Windows install the Rest...

Play a game on it (Solitaire), or better a Benchmark programm, like PC-Mark2003/2005 to stress it a bit and test it... and cross the fingers that that was it...

Ben

"If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer..."

ok now i rec'd the:

STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} the registry cannot load the hive (file): \systemroot\system32\config\software

after installing ms office.

That error happens when the install process encounters a Hardware error (usually Hard Drive, including Cable and loose connections, and/or Controller)...

How old is the Drive? Download Western Digitals Drive Utility, and let it do some checking on the Drive...

how old are the Cables? replace them if they are used/old...

Ben

Pretty frustrated isnt the word Ben..Geez...ok doing "ANOTHER" fresh install...running WD diagmostics first then pcmark2005 and will post results when completed.
