BCM 400 rel 3.7 2.4f

Try to install a patch and get the folowing error:

The MSC Core telephony could not be recognized. Please confirm that the telephones connected to the BCM are functioning properly.

I have tried a reboot, another computer with the upgrade software on it and 3 different patches. Get the same error everytime.

FTP server initializes and then the Health Check starts and after about 5 seconds it returns that error.

Any Ideas?

Try reseating the Pec's. And try restarting the Voice Management Subsystem service.

This is documented somewhere (I forget where). To recover, do the following:

1. exit the patch
2. reboot (might not be necessary sometimes so skip it if you want)
3. log into unified manafer
4. highlight system
5. go to tools > refresh system inventory
6. wait 5 minutes (not the one indicated)
7. go to tools > display system inventory

if the date and time are reasonably accurate (within 5 minutes of the time you refreshed) then you can log out and sucessfully run the patch. If not, I have stopped and restarted the inventory service and repeated 5-7 and carried on.

Can be cumbersome, but it should get you through.

Hey MagnaRGP,

Thanks for the advice on this, but I still am not able to get one of these patches to go through. I followed your steps above exactly to the t. Unfortunatley still nothing. I have ordered a harddrive and if that doesn't work then I will try a new MSC card.

Thanks again all,
Chad

have you made sure all the dependices for the patch are already installed, also make sure you are using the correct version patch, you get the same error if you try putting a 3.6 patch on a 3.7 system and visa versa...

Check on the drive names to make sure they read in the non corrupted format...see below.
The underlying issue is that the active and inactive drives were not
correct after the restore was applied causing system instability and
corruption.
You can tell if a system was affect in this way by looking at the
inventory.xml file and look at the F: and G: drive labels.
They should be...
F: NNACTINE
G: NNINACTIVE

You have a problem if the are...
F: NNINACTIVE
G: NNACTIVE
The system drive is corrupt and should be replaced.

No I did not. I was sent a new hard drive with the patch already on it. This still posed a issue because the daylight savings time patch still did not work. It said it was installed but it did not take affect last Sunday like it was supposed to.

I had this same problem with another customer doing various upgrades and one thing that worked on thier system but not this other one was as follows:

Started the upgrade process and when it got to where it was about to start the health check, I did a warm restart on the BCM. It would not take the upgrade unless I did the warm restart.

Good Luck!

There is a patch patch. Have you tried installing that? Especially on 3.7 if you dont have the Software management Patch loaded you wont get anywhere!

What is the software mgmt patch number and I'll download it. However if the BCM won't pass the Health Check and fails at the MSC, how will the patch ever install?

Did you notice the reply to your thread. Did you use the Wizards prior to uploading the patch?

I believe the system was re-numbered/reconfigured with the PBX template before it was installed, after the 3.6 to 3.7 upgrade. Once at 3.7 all of the patches available were installed.

Well even if you did use the wizards before can you still install the patch patch.

NewTechinTown,
Can you be a little more specific. I apologize, but my experience does not take me that far. Thanks for the help!

You have to go into the configuration manager of the BCM and Login. From there you select telnet on the Telephony Services Menu and make sure that it is enabled(default is disabled). Then if the BCM is on the network you can use any computer to access it through the command prompt. Start CMD and type the command: telnet "ip address of BCM". This should take you to the Nortel Networks Configuration Page. From there it is a numbered menu that only requires one press of the digit. Select Configuration Menu and then select MSC Upload. This process will take about 20 minutes and requires the system to reboot! It will sing a song when the process starts and completes.

Maybe a stupid question, but will this retain the BCM programming or will it be wipped out and I'll have to reprogram the entire thing?
