Hi all,

Passed 70-294 today.

Loads of Group policy questions, half of the 39 questions were about group policy, I got to question 17 before I got a question about something other than GP.

It was ok, easier than 291 if you've done that.
Lots of IPSEC, loads of CA.
Had 5 sims.
What materials have you used to study for it?

I use "Test Out", a video based instruction manual along with the Exam Cram and the Big Blue book.

I passed 293 this morning. Only two more to go...

How as the TestOut when it came down to passing the test? Did it cover all the right material? I'm currently using it to prep for 291. Did it help you for that test? I sure hope it helps me!

Test out is good if you like to be told things in a simpler, more easy to understand way. Personally, I get more out of class room type settings. It is easier to hear someone tell me about a topic than it is to read about it.

But, this would just help you get the big and medium sized picture. For finer detail, I used the exam cram and big blue books.

The simulations helped loads.

HutchHutchison,

I used TestOut (and the MS Press book) to prepare for the 70-294, but since I didn't pass, I need to retake it.

When you say that "The simulations helped loads", which ones do you mean?

Returning to this thread, does anyone have any good last minute advice for this exam?

I've mainly used TestOut and CBT Nuggets for study material, and I'll be using Transcender leading up to the actual exam on Tuesday 11/28.

Having failed it once, I really want to be able to pass it this time.

I can't remember much about the questions, but I made a note of the sims I had.

I had 1 where I had to create a domain in a new forest, some gpo stuff to disable my computer, control panel, another to publish some software and change some subnet assignments to certain sites

paulhthomas,

That's very helpful, as the score report shows general topics where I did or didn't do so well, but I feel that I really had trouble with some of the sims.

Thanks!

I don't know if you ever use it but sadikhov.com has a great forum for exam questions. the rest of the forum isn't that good but the mcse/mcsa section is really helpful

paulhthomas,

I'm a member at sadikhov.com, but really what I should do is to spend some time with the TestOut working on the sims there. I think this is what HutchHutchison was referring to above.

If I don't do well on the simulations next week, I'll probably have to resit this one, so I'll brush up as best I can.

Any additional tips would be appreciated, as I plan to take this exam on Tuesday.

just remembered I had another simulation where I had to edit some schema classes so make sure you know baout that too.
You haven't got to register the schmgmt.dll (or whatever the dll is!) to get the schema mmc, it's already in the start menu as part of the sim.

paulhthomas,

That schema sim is good to know about.

I spent about 2 hours last night trying to get one TestOut sim 100% correct. That's one sim that I should get right if I get it on the test. There's a big difference between watching something and doing it, so I feel a bit more confident now.

Follow up post:

Now that I've passed 70-294, I wanted to share a few details.

I had 42 questions, and 210 minutes. I was done in about 75 minutes, and I took my time with each question.

I used CBT Nuggets, TestOut, and Transcenders to study. Still there was one question that I had no idea about. I did get the sim that paulhthomas talks about above with editing the schema.

There were a few drag & drop, maybe 3 or 4 sims, a few choose two or choose three, but the majority were multiple choice. There were no point & click questions, such as click where you'd configure the settings for X.

I got no questions whatsoever about certificates or IPSec, even though these were in the Transcender for this exam. There were a few where you'd need to know group scopes and types, and why you can't DCPromo a new server (it fails due to bad DNS resolution).

That's a good quick review. Overall, I give this exam about a 3 1/2 on a 1-5 scale with 5 the most difficult.
