Are backplanes specific to processor releases? I have an R2 processor and was thiniking of upgrading. Is this possible?

The 5 slot carriers will work with any release of the partner

Note that the newer 5-slot chassis provides better venting, perhaps leading to longer equipment life. The old chassis requires the cover to be in place, or else the boards magically wiggle out (unless you strap them in place.) Being of the lunatic variety, I keep my cover installed and have a small fan draw extra air through my chassis.

The Partner ACS install I support has 2 fans above the top of the 5 slot chassis. They keep the air moving quite nicely and offer redundancy. Should 1 fan choke, the other fan will keep air moving until the dead fan can be replaced.

If you put an ACS into on old style carrier, you must break off the tab that holds the Partner Plus Processor in place.
My advice is to replace the carrier. For $100.00 bucks its worth it.

Interestling, if you look at diagnostics, a new ACS can not identify the carrier. For the money I'd change the carrier too. The cooling (as noted) is much better. The cards stay in too.
