Release 2 of my Overview of Partner Phone Systems is now avaiable from
The file is approximately 1mb in size, about 50 printed pages. Like my Merlin guide, it covers the range of Partner systems, from Basic to ACS, and lists compatible phones, accessories. This one included detailed coverage for the 4 different Partner voice mail systems.

This isn't a comprehensive manual; Avaya.com provides almost everything needed for detailed documentation. Instead, this document helps identify differences between systems and their releases, and provides good introductory material for people getting started with Partner.

As always, feedback is appreciated.

Nice little Partner history doc.

A correction to the Endeavor section ... Lucent did make an Endeavor upgrade PCMCIA card to flash the original R1 to R2. The R2 (called the Large System Upgrade) allowed for expanded system capacity and also additional Partner modules.

When Avaya wrote the ACS R5.0 software, it added the functionality to the system to accept the Endeavor 362EC line modules.

Thanks for the Endeavor tip. I'll update.

Does anyone have detailed information comparing different revs of Partner line/station modules? I know there have been several releases of some of these boards, but haven't found any documentaiton about them.

Hey John - good document. Couple of things:

The ACS R1 does not support 308 cards, only 206. The big change with R2 was 308's. Still get stung sometimes when sales people don't check on the release when selling an expansion card (since 206's aren't made anymore)!

You might want to configure the grid that gives you the release via Feature #1 by the beep pattern, makes it a little easier to find.

The header on the pages says "A Brief Review of MERLIN Phone Systems", and in various places (I realize that you probably used your Merlin document as a boilerplate to get started)

There was a "200" card, gave you 2 lines, but no stations. Didn't see many of them; usually for "cheap" customers.

Gee, I'm glad to see my quote about Endeavour being "truely strange" :) Just got to install a used one the other day, and actually it seemed to program VERY similar to an ACS. Guess I may have to rethink my position. (but they are still strange)

All in all, a GREAT resource. Thanks for doint it.
