Hi,
I'm seeking help with our at&t partner plus r4.1 system with partner mail r3. When checking messages we get the welcome to partner mail message but when pressing 0 for playback there is a click and the press 0 to hear plays again. If we are able to hear a message it is cut off before finishing. Everything I have read on this forum leads me to believe the vms is bad. any feedback is appreciated.

Can you confirm the voicemail type again? Is it the PCMCIA voicemail card that resembles a "fat credit card", or is it a module? If a module, I would try to power the system OFF, remove the hardware, and reseat it, then power the system back on. BE CAREFUL when doing this- IF your older Partner processor doesn't have a working internal battery (used to hold programming in its internal memory in the event of a power outage) then you will loose all programming and be forced to reprogram the processor from scratch.
If the vm is the PCMCIA card- I would try the same thing, power it down, reseat the card, the power it back on again. I have had to default a PC card voicemail to factory settings to fix this in the past. If the power cycle does nothing, then default the card.

Dial 9-9-999- then spell the word "aaaaa": xxxxx- the voice will say- system will be reset- good bye, and hang up on you. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, the vms is a module, the processor is r 4.1. I have powered down the system without reseating the vms module and it worked correctly when powered up again, but this only lasted for a couple of weeks, then the problem returned. Since I have powered down the system without losing programing am I right to assume the processor has a battery backup. If so I will try reseating. When powered up the VMS module seems to go through its self testing normally, but now the problem remains.

The voicemail is a Partner Mail VS. Because powering down the system temporarily fixes the problem, my guess is that the voicemail's hard drive is on the way out.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Sorry to type that you do in fact have a failing voicemail module. The internal harddrive is most likely the problem on the VM module. I would sell the customer a new R7 messaging, and 4 port license card. Good luck.

Yes it seems the hard drive is the problem. If I replaced it with R7 would I have to reprogram the processor or can I just swap vms modules and set AA and mailboxes?

You will need to change the ports assigned to Hunt Group #7 (it contains the ports that are assigned to the voicemail). The Partner Mail VS and the Avaya Partner Messaging's access ports are calculated differently.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
