Partner LAN access 1

Has anyone had any problems with setting up the LAN remote access for Partner Messaging? After much time and *$%&# I was finally able to access the RS232 port and reprogram the IP address and masks. Now I have a Partner that will not accept a WAV file greater than 7 seconds. The ones I voiced in at an extension on site will download to my PC but if I change them and try to re upload the remote messaging program says it can not do it and gives a fatal error.

I've been using the ethernet crossover cable and doing a direct connection to the Partner Messaging module. No problems. Have not used it over a LAN, although I do have one customer doing it and seems to be working for them.

Your problems maybe that when you edit the WAV file, you might be (accidentally) changing the type of WAV. WAVs can be recorded at various sampling rates, 8-bit or 16-bit, and as mono or stereo. I don't know what type the Partner system uses, but whatever it is, you must make sure that when you save the edited file, it is exactly the same in terms of sampling rate, and mono/stereo (I would assume that the Partner uses mono samples, and probably a low sampling rate). If you load a sample into Windows Sound Recorder, check Properties found on the File menu and you will see the format that the Partner system uses.

The messaging software will give you an error message if you have the wrong format WAV file. I am downloading the file from the Partner through the LAN/WAN,(the Partner's are from 20 to 100 mile distance from my desktop; Frame Relay WAN),and using the Messaging software to edit the WAV files. I think I have a bad Messaging card.

I have not tried a direct connect to the LAN port on this Partner to see if it acts any different, straight in verus LAN/WAN. I will try that before I call the card defective.

Does anyone have the pinout of the RJ connector RS-232 port on the Messaging card for attaching your PC?

Oh, just had another thought: you can connect to the internal modem of the Partner Messaging by dialing **1 after the Auto Attendant answers, thus you don't need to connect directly to the serial port.

You really only need to connect to set the IP address, or to capture a configuration report (btw, open the report in Word, it will handle the oddball formatting in the ascii dump)

The pinout for the RS232 port was right on! The only thing I had to change was the baud rate and I was able to get right in to the Partner Mail.
