Did the older Partner Proc's. have the ability to back up their data like the new ones do with the B/U cards. IF so what did the older Procs use to back up the system and station configs?

Did they have the battery to back up for short term power loss?

Yes and that is what goes bad. When they lose power they lose programming. Some people like to solder new ones in but in my opinion its time to upgrade to an ACS.

Ive got quite a few I have soldred battries in .

I give the custmer the choice and most would prefer a $75 or so battery replacment to acs upgrade .

unless they need other featres .

there really isnt that much programming that goes into these things .

spend a half hour and go through each program and document it on paper .

how long dose the internal back up battery last?

i guess if you have a small ups that would prevent some longer term power problmes?

the internal battery should last a couple of weeks on minimum
not sure exactly but more than enough for major power failure .

For the price of a decent television they can replace their 10 year old plus processor with a new ACS.

for me to replace a partner processor with a ACS , program and warranty they will pay over a thousand.

I can replace a battery and reprgram for less than 100

Unless they need the ACS features they can take the savings and buy a couple of decent Televsions

If you buy your ACS from an Avaya Business Partner and register it with Avaya it comes with a 3 year warranty.
To replace and old Partner with an ACS shouldn't take longer than 2 hours MAX as long as no cabling is required.(Thats including a 15 minute coffee break). Add a $100.00 if you want a new 5 slot carrier. And you can still get it done for less than $900.00.

so would you rather spend 100 or 900 ?

(your markup is low , you guys must ,make it up on MACS )

if you handle it with the battery for 100, hopefully in a few years when they need a new acs, they will buy from you. because you took care of them cheap the first time.

maybe not, i could be wrong on this.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.

This topic hits close to home for me.

A camp, that I have ties to, is about an hour away from my house. I knew that they have some sort of a Partner telephone system as the office area has MLS telephones sitting on desks.

Last week, I was back there for their annual Open House and asked the office manager if I could have a peek at the system. Knowing that the telephone system is under contract, I didn't touch the 5 module carrier, but simply shined a flashlight inside to see what was in there.

I saw what looked like a Partner II R4.1 with (2) 206 mods. The camp uses a basic AT&T 1719 answering machine to handle incoming calls on the main telephone line.

Despite the fact that the telephone system seems to be OK for them, I thought it seemed somewhat silly to spend good money to replace modules that are at least 10 years old and probably refurbished several times over, with other modules that are at least 10 years old and probably refurbished several times over.

A few days later, I typed up a letter to the office manager suggesting, that IF they ever decided to lose the crappy answering machine and go with a professional voicemail system, that they might want to speak with their vendor about upgrading to a Partner ACS R6, 308 expansion card, new 5 slot carrier and a suitable voicemail system such as a Partner Voice Messaging (Large) or an Avaya Partner Messaging.

The system is located at the top of a stairway leading to the attic of the building (a house actually), and I also noted that they needed to take a vacuum to the area to clear the spider webs and dust away from the phone system.
