This topic hits close to home for me.
A camp, that I have ties to, is about an hour away from my house. I knew that they have some sort of a Partner telephone system as the office area has MLS telephones sitting on desks.
Last week, I was back there for their annual Open House and asked the office manager if I could have a peek at the system. Knowing that the telephone system is under contract, I didn't touch the 5 module carrier, but simply shined a flashlight inside to see what was in there.
I saw what looked like a Partner II R4.1 with (2) 206 mods. The camp uses a basic AT&T 1719 answering machine to handle incoming calls on the main telephone line.
Despite the fact that the telephone system seems to be OK for them, I thought it seemed somewhat silly to spend good money to replace modules that are at least 10 years old and probably refurbished several times over, with other modules that are at least 10 years old and probably refurbished several times over.
A few days later, I typed up a letter to the office manager suggesting, that IF they ever decided to lose the crappy answering machine and go with a professional voicemail system, that they might want to speak with their vendor about upgrading to a Partner ACS R6, 308 expansion card, new 5 slot carrier and a suitable voicemail system such as a Partner Voice Messaging (Large) or an Avaya Partner Messaging.
The system is located at the top of a stairway leading to the attic of the building (a house actually), and I also noted that they needed to take a vacuum to the area to clear the spider webs and dust away from the phone system.
