Inherited management of our Partner ACS with no real previous experience. Ran CAT5 cable for new station like a POTS line and cannot get tone on handset. Plug handset direct into card get tone so the port is good, put buttset on first pair at wall jack, get tone, use non-digital phone at walljack get tone. Have tone from the port to the 66 block to the walljack with ordinary phone. Plug in Avaya 18D , no tone. Used two pair; I am truely stumped. Any sugestions appreciated. Using Lextron walljacks

Thanks for the reply, and I'm sorry if I'm not giving the right info this is all new to me. Yes, I am using a standard Lextron RJ-11 3 pair jack. Blue white and blue are punched down farthest from the wall mount (back) they run to the middle two pins of the RJ-11 going into the port. Grn\Wh and grn are in the midle pair of the wall jack and go to the outer pair in the port.

When you say "no dial tone" on the Partner set, do you have lights and display, but sound? Or phone set is completly dead?

If you put your butt set on the 2nd pair at the jack (pins 2 and 5 on the 6 pin jack) do you hear the data "buzzing"?

The phone is complety dead. No lights or anything. When I butt set the second pair I do hear a buzzing. This pair carries data to the phone?

You may have the green pair reversed. Try flopping it. You will not get dialtone through the partner phone unless you have lights and display.

You may have the green pair reversed...

Doesn't matter to Partner if either or both pairs are reversed as long as you do not swap them.

You have a problem with the second pair, pins 2 & 5 on the 6 pin jack.

By the way, a handset is the piece you hold in your hand, you are talking about a phone NOT a handset.

To the contrary, I think you'll find if you reverse the green pair (pins 2 &5 on 6 conductor) the partner phones will not work.

Hmmm? You better check that again. Also, why are you using the green pair in a 6 pin? Pair 2 is the orange pair.

Thank you all for the reply's. It seems to me that indeed there's a problem in the second pair (according to you guys) I am going to make another run this weekend and will
definitely let you know how I make out.

Bostec no; I am using CAT 5 and pulled the two pair off of it I don't use for data. Maybe a rookie mistak as it doesn't work. That's why I intend to make a dedicated run just for the phone

Thanks again to all.

Hi saleemas,
Always run separate cables for voice and data. CAT-5 works well for phones as it picks up less noise.
