We have an Avaya Partner R2.0 system. Some extensions have 18D (display) phones some have plain 18 phones (no display).

We have been replacing the 18 phones with 18Ds and the system does not want to acknowledge the 18D phones. We can still use the phones, but the top row of lighted buttons do not flash when you press F-00. I think that the system thinks they are still plain 18s.

The 18s and 18Ds are being plugged into the same device, here is a basic layout: Ext 10: 34D; Ext 11-14: 18D; Ext 15-20: were 18, now are 18D but still act like 18s.

Any ideas?

Partner, Partner Plus, Partner II, or Partner ACS????

If you don't know, pick up a line, press Feature and dial #1. Note the number and pattern of beeps, post back, and we can tell you what you've got.

It's probably so old, it was before there were 18-D phones, thus the top row of buttons are not recgonized. Live with it, or upgrade the processor.

Partner ACS R2.0

like i said in the original post Ext 10: 34D; Ext 11-14: 18D (from the original install); Ext 15-20: were 18, now are 18D but still act like 18s.

We have 10 18Ds which are plugged into modules next to 18s, now we are replacing the 18s with 18Ds. Is there switch which needs to be set to differentiate between 18 and 18D?

No, there is no programming necessary to switch from one phone type another, even from a 6 button set to 34 button set.

Try restarting the system, either by cycling the power switch, or Feature 00, Left Intercom twice, #728.

The very top row of the 18D has no indicator lights. They are used for passive button programming such as LNR or Voicemail, or Voicemail Transfer, etc... features that do not require monitoring.

Are you simply saying that when switching from an 18 to an 18-D that the buttons don't automatically come up as the phones that were 18-D's from the start?

If your only clue is that the top row of buttons that actually have LEDs do not flash when doing Feat00, understand that this may be normal operation. Normally, the only buttons that may light when Feat00 are the line keys, depending on ringing assignment. Try programming a button anyway and see how you make out...

@TTT: Yes, when switching from 18 to 18D the new 18Ds still act like 18s. And thanks for the restart code, i haven't tried that yet because my boss wants 99.9X% uptime, but i will once i have exhausted all other options.

@mforrence: Thanks, I will try just programing the button.

Here's an 18 button phone
[tt]
13 14 15 16
9 10 11 12
5 6 7 8
1 2 3 4

and an 18-D
[tt]
17 18 19 20 <--this row does not have lights
13 14 15 16
9 10 11 12
5 6 7 8
1 2 3 4

So the buttons are going to stay the same when you change phone types. If you want the things programmed on buttons 13 through 16 moved to 17 through 20, you're going to have to do that yourself, they won't magically move there by themselves.

So, go into programming on the new phone, press the button to see what the feature is, then press the new button and dial the feature or intercom code, which will put the feature on the new button, and in most cases also erase the old button.
